in reply to: short longbow recommendation #50402
Make sure you post pics!
in reply to: NCBA Rabbit Hunt #50266Good on yah man. I would be happy just to see 4 Rabbits up here. $#@^*&! Coyotes, Lynx, Wolves, Weasles, Raptors, Bears, Sasquatch…:)
in reply to: Tusker Broadheads… #49940Thanks folks. Guess they are a bugger to sharpen eh? I think I will give em a try anyhow, haven’t met a blade my Lansky couldn’t sharpen yet. I’ll let you know how it goes.
in reply to: short longbow recommendation #49255The Shrew is definately one lovely bow, but as mentioned above the price and waiting period were a bit too much. Another good bowyer is Mike Mecredy of Maddog Archery. Nothing terribly fancy in design, but a functional, well made bow for a fraction of the price most other bowyers charge.
in reply to: My First Trad Hunt. #49234First hunt and first miss all in one! To bad about the miss but good on yah for getting a shot opportunity on your first trip out. So what was it you were shooting at?
in reply to: A view of hunting #47244I agree with and practice the belief that we should eat what we kill and only kill what we intend to eat, but I don’t think I could say that the kill was unimportant. I have heard some folks say that they always feel a bit of regret when they take an animals life, but unless I kill in the name of mercy (cutting the throat of a seriously injured vehicle hit Deer) I tend to feel a bit of satisfaction when walking up to an animal that I have killed. I am not a trophy hunter and do not chase “book” animals but I feel satisfaction non the less. Is this wrong? Don’t know.
Well I did a search and now know what critter you folks are talking about. Kinda looks like a HUGE Goat. Are they free range in Texas or only in preserves? I hear Texas has all sorts of critters like Gemsbok and Blackbuck (?) and such, but I can never tell if they have a feral population or if they are all ranched.
in reply to: Martin Stick LongBow #46815HEAVY ARROWS! Or at least that was my impression after shooting a Martin Stick with 400 grain carbon arrows. Never felt hand shock quite like that before. And it was only a 40 pound bow. Switched to a 550 ish grain aluminum arrow and most of the hand shock issues went away. If I owned a Stick I wouldn’t shoot nothing under 12 grains per pound.
in reply to: Ground Hunting #44269So far I have been a ground hunter only, but I did buy a treestand to try this upcoming season. I’m pretty sure I’ll still do most of my hunting on the ground, but for Whitetails and filling the freezer I think I’ll spend some time in a tree.
in reply to: Work sharp sharpener #43330Not the exact model no, but I have used devices that are very similar. They work great but they also remove alot of metal very quickly.
in reply to: Bear Patriot? #40651I haven’t heard nothing about them yet, but it is good to see Bear expanding their line. Good looking bows for sure.
