in reply to: Who names their bows? #11687I named my bow “Guerdon” which is a middle english word meaning to reward. My figuring is that with practice and patience, “Guerdon” will reward me and my wife with our winters meat. Corny I know, but it just seems to fit for me.

Yah Alberta has an extremely liberal rabbit season. It runs all year and your limit is unlimited. Same goes for Woodchucks, Gophers, Porkupine, Jackrabbit, Cottontail, and even Beaver (only on private land with written consent of the landowner). As far as being early for Bears, it seems their rut begins around then up here. As far as Bear sightings on this trip, I ran into 5 seperate Bears so they definately appear to be out and about.
Yup we have both Aspen and Birch in Alberta.in reply to: New bowhunter born today! #56053Congratulations Mr.Downing! Wish mom and the rest the best. 😀
in reply to: Righthanded/ left eye dominate #43134I used to shoot that way and found the only way to mantain any accuracy was to close my left eye and force my right eye to be dominant. I read somewhere that wearing an eye patch during shooting on your dominant eye, will eventually force the non-dominant eye to become dominant. I tried it for a year but it didn’t work. Also instinctive shooting with one eye was impossible for me. So I learned to gap and became quite accurate.
Long story short I eventually went to a left handed bow. It was one hell of a learning curve, but I am a better archer because of it. If your daughter finds using a lefty bow to awkward, then I would recommend teaching her to gap shoot with her left eye closed. Hope this helps and good luck. -
