Three-headed elk. Hmmmmmm. And I thought it was hard to pick a spot when there is only one head of horns! 😉

Sounds like a sweet setup Smithhammer. Would you perhaps have a few photos to post to give us fence sitters a better look? I definately am considering picking up one of my own.

I agree that very little fletch is needed with a properly tuned arrow, but I will continue shooting 5.5″ shield helical because it makes the arrow so much easier to see. And watching my arrow in flight is for me definately one of the biggest attractions to traditional archery.

Impressive set of arrows! Gotta be getting a bit on the pricey side though?

I just went through my mushroom book and couldn’t find anything quite like it. My book is supposed to cover mushrooms of the boreal forests, so the one you found may not be included in its pages.

125 grain Zwickey Eskimo on a 25 grain aluminium adapter is currently my head of preferance. They just seem to fly the best and man are they easy to sharpen with a file. No more fancy (read expensive) sharpening jig for me.

Oh man why did you have to post a link? Do you know how much bartering (which translated means begging) I’m going to have to do before the wife lets me get one of those? Or I guess I could buy it now and beg forgiveness after. Might be hazardous for my health though. Good thing I have insurance .

Yah Canada seems to have a bit of a void when it comes to anything like a traditional organisation. Perhaps Ducks Unlimited might be the closest thing, but I also want any funds to support traditional archery if possible.

Now sunglasses are a new one for me. Do you find that they interfere with the string at full draw, or do you use a wrap around type? Like goggles?
Also where do you folks find your face paint? I have been looking all over town and nobody carries it, or will only carry it during Halloween. And since season starts in 17 days any suggestions on where a guy could order some would be appreciated. The fact that I haven’t used it before can be attributed to my lingering rifle hunter habits. So much more to learn :?.

Thanks for the reply Smithhammer. I was looking into the Backcountry Hunters and Anglers, but I saw no mention of Canada in their webpage.
Do they operate in Canada as well?

Sounds gnarly looking. Can’t wait to see the pics.

Thank you for your input Mr Graf. And what I meant when I said “relevant to the traditional bowhunter” were things like combating ORV abuse, the protection of public lands and the creation of more primitive seasons.
I hadn’t heard of the Aldo Leopold Foundation until your post. Thank you for the suggestion.

The only case I have ever run into when it comes to shooting cock feather in, was a fellow shooting a recurve in Calgary. He had bought the bow (Bear Grizz if I remember correctly) and the set of carbon arrows the previous owner was using. While he was shooting his “new” bow at the range he was experiencing slightly nock left arrow flight. Now I knew and know diddly about carbon, but being the only other fella there shooting trad he asked me if I knew the cause. I suggested to him that his arrows might be slightly weak in spine (as he was right handed). He assured me that wasn’t the case because when his buddy (previous owner) was shooting these same arrows he achieved perfect arrow flight. So since I hadn’t a clue what was wrong I lamely suggested he place the cock feather facing in, since I had read Dennis Kamstra mentioning this in TBM. Well he gave er a go and for reasons I didn’t and don’t understand, his arrows flew perfectly. So I got to look intellegent (I left shorty there after in order to maintain this impression) and his arrows suddenly worked. Maybe it was a release or form thing, who knows?
