          PHIIIILLLLLLLL!!! NNNOOOOOO!!!
          LOL!

Great shot on the Chuck. Saw one in a tree once myself but nowhere near that high. Maybe you killed a Squirrel/Chuck hybrid:shock:?
After all the Grizz and Polar Bear are inter-breeding, so…

I take the string off and fold it loop to loop with the same side facing (you will be able to tell this because there will be an arch in the loops from being strung) and then simply use a twist tie to secure them at the loops. When I go to re-string my bow I know then that the two sides of the loops facing each other will be the sides facing the bow’s belly.
On another note I always leave my bow strung for awhile before I go to shoot it, that way it gives the string a chance to stretch out again. And like Polar Bear I always carry a level with me as well, or if the level will be too cumbersome then I carry a fabric (?) measure tape.
I guess we are both anal .

Congrats on the new hunting loco. I hear Kansas is a Deer hunters paradise.

LOL man I wish I could see that vid! And I bet as a memeber in good standing of this site that you composed yourself as a rugged woodsman should, and only yelled at a slightly elevated pitch during your mad dash to the truck:P.

in reply to: Jungle Hammocks. #53842

Dr. Ashby how cold in degrees celcius have you tested a hammock? Northern Alberta can get mighty cold but I love the idea of packing something like that around instead of a tent and all the junk that goes with it.
Oh and did you have any issues with the eight legged creepy crawlies getting into your hammock when you were in Australia? When I was there I was forever having problems and I slept in hostels. Them Huntsmans especially gave me the jeebies, even though they are pretty much harmless (or so I was told).

Well this definately explains things. Thanks Dr. Ashby.

Steve Sr. perhaps if you had a camera man shooting from behind you from a distance of say 50 yards, you could get a pic and not disturb your quarry.

What type of wood are your arrows made of Duncan? If they are cedar what stain did you use to turn them that dark?

Polar Bear you are both a scholar and a gentleman! Is there any specific brand of jungle hammock that you would recommend?

I couldn’t agree more with your folks tales of reaction times. Last year I managed to get three shots. The first was a whopper of a miss at a yearling Whitetail that was standing a little further than bow length away (coulda killed her with a spear). But the other two were both 30ish yard shots that didn’t connect becuase the Deer jumped/ducked my arrow. That being said I guess I’ll just have to get closer because even though I didn’t make a kill, it was one hell of a rush watching my arrow on its way to the Deer.

jmsmithy I agree with you to a point, but if an ethical hunter uses the very best quality equipment he/she can afford, then where does that place hunters using selfbows or knapped heads. Do they work? You bet! Are they the highest quality gear that person can afford? I doubt it. Ethics are such slippery things.
Love the discussions on this site, always guaranteed to make a fella think.

Man thats a pretty rig you got there! But I wouldn’t even attempt to sleep in a hammock up here, the mossies would drain me in seconds.

I have heard ABS produces top quality, one of a kind products. But like you I simply cannot justify the expense so I can only go from what Iv’e heard elsewhere.
