We have missed Nancy’s smiling face at Compton for the last several years. Like Ron she will be remembered in Archery history.

Ron you are in our prayers and thoughts.

                  DAVID

The story does not have to be about game you shot . It can be about the process you went through to achieve your arrow or why you have studied Dr Ashby writings and what part you adopted and why.

You story about the does you shot are great.:D Traditional archers should feel good about any kill as they are a accomplishment. Not many of us are lucky to kill P&Y trophies. Many years I wish I had taken

any deer. I personally went 5 years after picking up the traditional bow with out

killing a animal. There are always lean years the important thing is you are having fun! Just like you would have fun trying to pull the bow back:lol: On second thought…….LOL

MEAT IN THE FREEZER IS AN EXCELLENT TESTIMONY OF A GOOD ARROW .

                  LOOKING FORWARD TO YOUR STORY

Thanks for you patience . This is a print on demand book .When dealers order the books Creatspace prints them to fill orders. I did not do a good job of estimating sales. Demand for the book was beyond expectations. Finally getting caught up and all in house orders as of today will be filled and shipped by Friday.

All new orders received now will be filled within a few days of receipt.

Just this once I am sorry that I have to make everyone abide by the same rules. I wish Ed the best on his book sales, but we don’t allow commercial posts in the forum. Who makes these rules anyway? 😉

Sorry for the confusion/mystery. Enjoy the book!

Robin is correct if the site became a advertisement for every new product we probably would not come here.

To clarify the donation question the good doctor is donating all the proceeds he makes on the book to his favorite charity. On the other hand TuffHead when selling the book is able to purchase the book for less than retail so there is a small difference between retail and whole sale. This is necessary to induce other retailers to carry the book.Which I hope happens. If there was not a spread in price I am sure Robin would gladly have allowed the original post indicating where the book could be purchased. The web mother was a good sport and allowed the post as a book review which I appreciate.

I do not normally carry books as I had suspected and am verifying that it is not economical for us but will continue as long as there is a demand for NOW.. and probably beyond.

Dr.Ashby is my mentor (kind of different a younger guy being a mentor to a older guy:D ) and friend. I am promoting his book not only because of our friendship but because I think it has great information contained in it.….

This book also enlightens the reader to another side of Dr. Ashby that we don’t get to see in the broadhead studies and discussions. I bet their are few out there that knew that Dr.ED wrote poems .This book contains great poems about his thoughts on hunting and nature. These poems are part of the topics he discusses to illustrate a point. I do not normally get into poetry 😳 but these are great and entertaining.

There is a lot to learn from seasoned and experienced hunters like Dr. Ed. We should take advantage when we can.

Amazon is the publisher through their publishing company CREATESPACE. Amazon is also retailing the book at a reduced price almost the same price wholesalers purchase it at.

Buy the book where ever… you won’t be disappointed . Even when Amazon reduces their retail price by contract they still have to donate the same amount of Dr. Ashby’s royalty to the Fisher house.

Col Mike or any one else will be doing a service to get more retailers selling it. Contact local book stores and request that they carry it. It will help a worthy cause.:D:D As far as I know the advertising for the book is all word of mouth other than retailers that might carry the book

The proper way to build a FOC arrow is like suggested above by David and Wojo. Determine the broadhead you want to use and build the arrow around it. 😀

What I did might sound a little backward, but I chose my broadhead, a Tuffhead 225, matched a field tip (300 grain) to match. That’s Tuffhead with a 75 gr. steel adapter. Then I tuned the arrow and bow. I ended up with 635 gr, short of the magic 650, but it’s the weight that I can match hunting, target and stumping arrows to. I might add another 25 gr. to the adapter next year and that won’t change a hill of beans next to my target/stumping arrows and will carry it over the 650 weight.

                            Have fun, dwc

DAVID I don’t know the particulars of your arrow but a alternative for adding 25 grains weight would be to add a external footing. That is a easy, practical solution for 25 grains.:D

What do you guys feel is a “minimum” foc/efoc?

My 2 carbon set ups are 29% and 24%

My aluminum set up is 20%

My hardwood set up is 12%

                              WOJO14

I DON’T THINK THERE IS A MINIMUM FOC FIGURE. UNLIKE A TOTAL ARROW WEIGHT GOAL OF 650 GRAINS WHICH IS NECESSARY TO BREACH BONE THERE IS NO SET FOC NUMBER THAT IS MANDATORY FOR A GOOD HUNTING ARROW ….. FOC IS SOMETHING WE CAN DO TO IMPROVE ARROW FLIGHT AND HELP INCREASE PENETRATION IN SOFT TISSUE. ACHIEVING A HIGH FOC IS A DESIRABLE GOAL. THERE ARE CATEGORIES OF FOC DESIGNATED BY DR. ED ASHBY BUT THEY ARE FOR REFERENCE OR USE IN CONVERSATIONS …YES A FOC OVER 30% IS GREAT BUT I WOULD NOT SACRIFICE THE GOAL OF 650+ GRAINS TOTAL ARROW WEIGHT FOR A ARROW OF LESSOR WEIGHT OF HIGH FOC. MOST OF THE TIME A HIGH FOC AND AN 650+ GRAIN ARROW CAN BE ATTAINED TOGETHER IF ONE HAS AN ARROW SPINE CAPABLE OF SUPPORTING A LOT OF WEIGHT UP FRONT.

TO ANSWER YOU SPECIFIC QUESTION ABOUT YOUR EXISTING ARROWS THE FOC APPEAR TO BE MORE THAN EXPECTABLE IF THE ARROWS FLY WELL AND WEIGH IN THE APPROXIMATE AREA OF 650 GRAINS:D

                                JANS

CONGRATULATIONS I would also like to compliment you on doing a autopsy Some times weather ,time and conditions will not allow us to do this investigation work but when possible it can be very revealing.

“]During the field dressing and butchering Autopsy I found the following; the broadhead entered just forward of the ball joint of the Humerus. The Femoral Artery was severed and part of the Pelvis was broken. The broadhead continued across and severed the bottom of the Lumbar Spinal column. The broadhead continued on to slightly exit the contralateral side. Due to the wound channel and the amount of blood found between contact and recovery, this animal died quickly.”

                                Very informative.:idea:Nice work

Again congratulations on the hunt and a well written story with nice pictures.:)

                                  Kiwi

Heavy arrows are what the Doctor (Dr. Ed Ashby ) ordered for hunting. A 50 lb bow is a real common weight for a hunting bow and by todays standards not light but comfortable and manageable.

It is common for those that profess that a heavy arrow lends to increased penetration to shoot arrows approaching and passing 700 grains from 50 lb bows

If you are starting from scratch one goal is to have your total arrow weight approach or exceed 650 grains in order to breech bone if bone is encountered. There are other goals as mentioned above such as trying to get a large percentage of the arrow weight in the front of the arrow commonly referred to FOC.

Arrow design and tuning is one of the mot important things we do as archers. Some think it is a pain in the a–and do not spend the effort needed. There are others that make the effort to properly tune their arrow and are rewarded. Believe it or not there are some of us that actually have fun with it .

Kiwi hope your quest for a heavy arrow turns out fruitful and enjoyable:D:D

                                  PS

I would love to join Col Mike and I am sure others for a Tradbow hunt on that ranch.:D
