in reply to: Seat for ground hunting #43883
I have found myself using my tripod seat quite a bit so far this season to tell ya the truth. I love the hammock seat and use it every chance I get. I have a couple of hunting spots thou it makes more since to use the tripod just because the trees do not have a wide enough diameter. I am sure that once the leaves start dropping thou I will be switching to just the hammock seat.
Hammock seat is by far the most comfortable seat but the tripod seat is my next go to seat. Its low and has adjustable legs on it. I have two that I bought from fleetfarm.com for $20. Well worth it!

10-12 years ago to present carbon.
Within last 5 days first time shooting woods and MAN, am I smitten!!! Just received my first order from Joe @ True North Arrows. Unreal the beauty, the quality and the performance. Remarkably quiet….now I’m really torn as I’m comfortable and shoot well with carbons all these years but shooting these woodies last few days I’m putting them in as good or better groups, quieter and doing it from 2 different ( though not remarkably so – Widow PCHX and KBX) bows!
This sure is fun 😆
I think that is the problem that I am having….I love shooting the woodies! They are a blast to shoot, I just hate the fact that I break them more frequently. I shoot in my backyard at one of those rhinehart ball targets. I love the target itself its a different shot every time i shoot but I keep banging my arrows together on it. Basically I shoot one arrow and the target moves and then I end up hitting the side of the arrow and splits the arrow right in half. The same thing happens with my carbons too….I guess the lesson here is don’t shoot as many arrows into the target. I will probably limit myself to 3 arrows for that target.
I think my predicament that I have right now will be an on going process and as mentioned before its going to come down to preference
Thats one thing that I never have done with my carbons is cut them. I buy the full length shafts and put feathers on and let them rip basically and never had any issues. The woodies on the other hand I have them cut to a certain length.
To me the making the arrows is all part of being a traditional archery. I love putting together the arrows and inspecting each one, I could almost name my arrows too, both carbon and wood 🙂
What I like about carbon over wood is the fact that I can bounce another arrow off of it and it will not be effected. The woodies get banged up and I have already had 2 arrows explode upon release and I will not fire any more damaged arrows because of it.

💡 Maybe someone makes a car trailer for your mountain bike. Gotta think outside the box. 😆
I have thought about that too but I also have a small trailer that I will bring with me, that alone when its folded down takes up quite a bit of space in my car…..I wonder if I could tow it behind my car thou????

Hopefully next year I will have a truck and will be putting the bike to good use getting back into areas that are rarely seen by hunters!!
in reply to: String knocks #63161String nocks all the way! My big nose kept getting cut by my old brass nocks. Thanks for sharing
in reply to: Zwickey Delta Giveaway #63156Thanks Bruce. Those will be really helpful since I spent all my money (not all but enough for tears:cry )fixing my ride so I can get somewhere where I can use them.
I won’t be buying any new bows for awhile for sure. Like I need one, but when do we not?
I also enjoyed the other tales. Thanks guys.
Bravo congrats R2!
in reply to: Food for a Backpack Hunt #53828An empty can of Pringles can hold roughly 2 pounds of pasta, cylinder shaped can be packed almost anywhere. Get the bagged tuna which weighs less than the can and grab a couple packets of mayonnaise from Subway and you have a weeks worth of food in side a Pringles can. Carbs, protein and taste 100x better than the dehydrated packs.

Smithhammer that is exactly how it went ha ha!
The memory card is still intact which is good. I can view all of the videos that were on the memory card except for the last video that recorded unfortunately. I have one more chance to view the video but it will require another GoPro.
I have my fingers crossed that I will be able to get that video….it was the first arrow that I shot so the video will not be very long

That’s tough man. We ought a be cryin.
As soon as it happen I had the Oh **** moment, followed by a giant smile and laughter….I laughed when I realized that the thing was ruined and was not going to turn on every again….yes I was bummed too but no crying over split milk. I would have been more upset if I would have broken my arrow!
Lesson from last night….I need to shoot more arrows and focus more on the target. But on a positive note the GoPro is only a couple of inches long and tall….maybe it was a heck of a shot!
in reply to: Keeping it fun! #40122I was trying to keep in fun in my backyard last night shoot my bow. I wanted to try out my GoPro for a few different shots, I put the GoPro right next to my target. As I drew my bow back my mind says “don’t hit the GoPro” what happens next…..I totally smoke the GoPro 😆 Sucks Yes…Funny HECK YES! Just a bummer that I lost a GoPro that is only a few months old…no way to repair it. Once I am able to get the video from it I will see if I can post it on here for everybody to laugh and enjoy 😀
in reply to: Tis the season #38997I got lots of work to do still out in the woods. I typically hunt on public land all the way up until gun season starts then would call it quiets due to the gun slingers shooting at anything that makes a sound in the woods. Last year I was able to get permission to hunt on some private land which I am very excited about, just need to spend some hours scouting the land! Once gun season begins I will be able to hunt that land which is great since, gun season starts right when the rut is in full swing here in Minnesota. I plan on getting my butt out of bed early on Sunday to scout for a new location on the public land and setting up a couple ground blinds! So much fun! I enjoy the preseason prep just as much as I do spending time in the woods!
in reply to: Zwickey Delta Giveaway #37785Awesome I like this!!!
I was out bow fishing several years ago, I was standing in my flat bottom boat hanging around some lily pads waiting to see a carp moving thru in about 2-3 feet of water. After hanging out for awhile I saw the lily pads starting to part and I flung an arrow right in front of it and watched my arrow fly back out of the water. I hit a freaking rock, I hurried up and reeled in my line nocked up the arrow again shot back in front of the parting lily pads again…..arrow goes flying up and out of the water….what the heck I thought started to reel in my arrow again just to watch a giant snapping turtle raise its head up out of the water and looked at me with the same confused look that I had 🙂
in reply to: Bright Fletching/Wraps and Hunting #31562The brighter the better!! My old man uses colors that are not natural in nature too, so he does not use, reds, orange, yellow. His favorite color is blue fletching but I must say I have had a much harder time trying to find a arrow with blue fletching then I do with an arrow with orange fletching.
We also had to laugh at the point that they make arrows in a camo pattern, as if it was not already difficult to retrieve a lost arrow :lol:
I have not done it yet but I would like to have all my arrows dipped in white paint. They can be easier to find plus you will be able to see your arrows performance in the air
