in reply to: A day in the woods…At last! #46651
Glad your back!! 😀 And glad to see you got out to enjoy nature.
Nothing wrong with a bit o’ gloating on your shots. If I could hit that well after a 3 month hiatus I’d gloat a bit too.
I had a truck with “character” once…. ended up letting my Dad and Uncle have it for some work they did for me. I don’t really miss it because I see them broke down as much as I was when I had it. Reminds me what a piece of…… not so fine machinery it really was. I believe I got the best deal on that barter.
Keep up the great shootin’.

in reply to: Elk and eneregy #43058I too have friends in oil and gas that live to hunt and fish. I also have family and friends in the logging and lumber industry. I just want to see each done responsibly.
I know how I am, and my meaning, on some, issues may be misconstrued because I word them incorrectly to get my true intentions and meaning across, that’s why I only occasionally chime in on volatile issues.
in reply to: Elk and eneregy #43015Not to sound like a reactionary type person, but maybe it’s time to stop the studies and start poking some noses!
I mean seriously don’t people understand that the more you vote for one……. Politician(for lack of a more acceptable and less vulgar term) just because they are for one thing you are for and not for their entire political views, than you are voting away your rights through the political back door.
Without exposure to the general public and nicer people than me explaining in simple terms everyone can understand things won’t change. And I’m afraid(this is my fatalist side coming out) that with today’s me, me, me right freakin now mentality and our kids with their noses glued to these damn smart things, we may be seeing the beginning of the end.
I speak out when I believe someone should and there isn’t any one more articulate than me around, but I have a tendency to get a tiny bit angry and vicious….. So I try to show support to those that present a clear, concise argument that I actually agree with! And there aren’t very many of those out there.
Dave P, Smithhammer, Clay Hayes, and a few others here as well as groups like Back Country Hunters and Anglers seem to have a very similar outlook on issues that I hold dear, so I will let you guys put it eloquently and back you up the best I can.
Wow I don’t normally rant like that.

in reply to: Insert/Adapters for glue-on heads? #37959I’m using a 100 grn brass insert, 75 grn screw in titanium adapter and a 225 grn tuff head this year. So far, as mentioned above I have not seen a problem. The titanium adapters feel light weight but I couldn’t bend one in the vise using my pliers, and gave it a wack with the 22 once framing hammer and when screwed into the arrow it still spun true, so I’m sold on them.

Smithhammer wrote: Just finished reading “Wolfer” by Carter Neimeyer.
Essential reading for anyone interested in the real story of wolf re-introduction in the States. Written from the guy who was at “ground zero” for all of it. After you read this, you’ll be amazed that wolf re-introduction ever happened at all.
It’s a very eye opening book and there are many anti wolf folks that think “he is the DEVEL” (Kathy Bates-the water boy) for even being such a large part of the reintroduction. It opened my mind to new thoughts.
in reply to: Cold Weather Gloves #24897In early cool weather that requires some kind of cover on my hands I use a very thin driving glove that is tight on my fingers and I use my tab over the glove just to keep the same smoothness on the string when I release.
Keep in mind you have to practice with the gloves on…. A lot.
In the later season I use a mitten that flips the finger mitt back and I can have my tab on my finger inside the mitten.
Again practice with it on A Lot.
If it gets cold enough that neither of those set ups will work while I’m sitting, I put the bow away grab my double, load the dog up and go pheasant hunting. 😀

in reply to: ''The Hammer '' small game blunt #24434Like Smithammer I use the VPA small game Thumper, mainly because it comes in 300 GRN screw in to match my field points and broad head weight.
in reply to: Crossfit and hunting? #24409Keep what you have because trying to get it back after it’s gone is just pure hell.
With having to travel so much for work and severe time constraints due to long hours, I was having trouble getting back into huntin shape, I am using the T25 exercise program and it is slowly beating me back into a shape other than round. On the weekends I do a stretching routine and practice what Tia Che I can pull from muscle memory to counter act years of disuse, abuse, miss-use, and an addiction to home made ice cream.
I trained with an instructor when I was in the service in sunny San Diego, when I was reassigned he gave me a book of poses and stretching routines in it. He told me to practice what he had taught me and to learn a new pose every day. At the end of the book was several exercise routines putting the poses into motion. It really helped my balance and reaction speed even though most of the movements are made extremely slowly. I practiced it for years and still return to it when I feel myself stiffening up.
Unfortunately my instructor passed away years ago and I lost the book and can’t remember the title.
Some one told me once that “the knees where the second thing to go but I can’t remember what the first thing was” I thought it was funning when I heard it but now I’m beginning to feel that same way myself. 😯
I will look through the on line book stores to see if I can find the right title and get back to you.
Remember that no matter what DVD or book or instructor you try the first couple of weeks will be sore stiff muscles and frustration in learning your first “real” poses of a routine no matter how good of shape you think your in.
I’ve seen a couple of skinny Doe’s eating in the fields with some that look ready to drop, this last weekend home in SD, but I haven’t actually seen the spotted babes as of yet. They might not have been bread or, as I’m hoping already dropped, they where more vigilant and standoffish than the others.

in reply to: Eye Glasses for Archery? #19958I too am glad your still around and shooting:D you have to much knowledge we haven’t tapped into! Plus you come up with some of the most interesting threads.
We got just a “hair” more rain here in Clovis than you got. The ground is still damp and we may get another little bit yet today.
I normally wear contacts when I’m hunting. It messes up my close up vision….. but that’s what they invented cheater magnifiers for.

Inspiration:? Ha, the old adage,”Pick three hairs and shoot at one”? It’s OK methinks to be able to shoot at the three and I’m sure to hit one. 😀
Isn’t flock shooting hairs the same as flock shooting birds?:?
I’m happy if I can make out the color difference right behind the crease at the back of the shoulder/leg bones, for a place to concentrate on, let alone a single hair. 🙄
