in reply to: Favorite wild game recipe #59301here is one more, I am sure this is “un-original”. But it is simple to say the least…its a “one pot meal” with two ingidiants.
we were grouse hunting in the U.P.(Upper Penninsula of Mich.) and came across an apple orchard, when we thought of this one.one nice size pot(dutch oven…if ya got it)
slice up apples, put in bottom of pot
lay full (dressed) grouse on appples
smash up more apples and throw on top of that
put on stove(we used a fire pit)
don’t now how long to cook it, use your judgment
eat it up cause it sure wont last long:Pgreat camp dinner!!!
in reply to: Favorite wild game recipe #59281Here’s mine, if you aint Polish, you may not like it. But this is the BEST I ever had!!!
1 lb ground venison browned
simmer tomatoes(canned whole work best), and sauerkraut and onions
boil cabbage
stuff cabbage with vennison(lay out leaf and roll it)
put in a baking dish
pour tomatoes, sauerkraut and onions over it
bake 350 for about 20-30 min.i made this 2 years ago. now I can not keep venison in the freezer! try it, you will LOVE IT! I promise.
I moved to Texas a year ago from Minnesota. I did not hunt this year, because I am not a millionaire!!! there is virtually no public land, and leases will cost you a fortune! Next year I am going over to Arkansas, they have alot of public land there, and the out-of-state tag isn’t that bad.
Of course I live in the DFW area, not the panhandle. It could be different up there.
Good Luck!in reply to: Swimming Reindeer Sculpture 13,000 years old #25851thats pretty cool, its amazing how they could do that with the tools they had back then:!:

just wish i could shoot straighter:oops:in reply to: Missed a grouse today #18295Good to hear from ya Montana!!! the season just opend right before i got up there, and the way they hunt them “up north’ is with 12ga. and ford trucks:!::( So when you get back in the woods, chances are the birds haven’t seen a person walking up right their whole life!
when we hunt them with shotguns and dogs, we limit out quite regularly…or at least have a blast missing:lol:in reply to: Missed a grouse today #17201yeah it was exciting to say the least!!! we were walking the snowmobile trails, the woods were rediculously thick, and they would just sit there in the trails, if you missed they would fly ten yards to a tree and sit there.
it was a blast, but now I have to tell my wife I need arrows…AGAIN!!!in reply to: Missed a grouse today #14058just got back south after me “deer” hunting trip to minnesota. no deer, but the ruffed grouse were out!!! I lost 8 arrows and downed 2 grouse! WELL WORTH IT!!!:D:D:D
