in reply to: Righthanded/ left eye dominate #43785
Robin’s advice is spot on, Thorr40.IMHO she will benifit from starting to shoot left handed. Also, a big thank you for serving our country. 😉 Have a safe return and good shooting. Wayne
in reply to: Chopping wild turkey feathers. Help! #40417Like Bruce said, try that article…. but splitting the quill is always abit of a stinker. The Xacto knife as DP said is the best cutting implement to use. Once you get them split you take the two strips of metal and clamp them together over the split feather and carefully grind them down on a belt sander to the proper thickness to glue on. Make sure you use only the primary flight feathers. Hope this helps you,Nick.

in reply to: String Silencers what is the best for you ? #28420My longbow doesn’t require much vibration suppression, but I put beaver fur on to make it just a wisp of sound. And besides, like a few have mentioned, it looks8) 😆 As for the hunting in the rain part, it’s hard on feathers and makes a blood trail alot harder, if not impossible.JMHO
Waynein reply to: Arrow swinging off shelf #28411Watched the video and found it very informative:) Wayne
I think Don nailed it for alot of us, in that we have to learn when and how to go about drawing our bows with animals at close quarters. It’s especially hard with turkey as they have such great peripheral vision, and unless we draw when they are faced away and fanned out strutting it is nearly impossible to escape detection regardless of what we wear. Ghillies are fine, but have drawbacks like Dave pointed out; getting snagged on everything including your string.:( I’m trying it with my leafy camo this year…..Wayne
in reply to: screw-in adapters for woodies #23927I think the brass adapter would be great and wish someone with machining skills could make an “impact” on the use of woodies system for EFOC….
Waynein reply to: Just like a bad penny… #61613Glad to have you back in the action,Patrick. It was getting alittle boring at times not having cut in with your wry remarks. Had alittle bit of a layoff from shooting myself and I’m rusty. The weather will be breaking soon and 3-D shoots will have us all back at it. 8)
Waynein reply to: New to the site #59263Welcome,Joe…..glad to have you aboard. We’ve got a good site here; plenty of good advice and first-rate commeraderie. 🙂
in reply to: New to Traditional Shooting #27136Glad to have another convert.Whatever arrow you choose is fine as all three have their merits, and as Mr.Peterson put it could be fun trying to experiment with all three. Go with what works best for you. I’m a dyed in the wool woodie guy,but I’ve used aluminum before, and can’t remember being that in love with them. Wooden shafts are a challenge to make and get to fly well and I enjoy building them.
in reply to: may I come in? #27116Welcome aboard,Homer. You’ll probably never find a better site than this. I’ve been on a few and I think this is one of, if not the best for information and entertainment. The people that I’ve met on here are topnotch.TBM has a great staff that is most helpful and concerned for the members that meet here….:) Hang around and get to know the regulars. Wayne
in reply to: New TBM, question for Don Thomas #25947The mentality that “if it’s legal,it’s ethical”, I feel is what separates us from modern bowhunting marketing. Being ethical is a large part of what drives us to be better hunters, and avoid most of the hype that others fall prey to from the hunting industry.
in reply to: Some Family Hunting and Scouting Pics #20473Thanks for sharing,Mr.Downing. Helps pass these in between periods.
in reply to: Some Old Photos #20462Brings back memories of when I was a kid and going to shoots with my dad. Too bad your dad lost all his archery gear.:(
