Thanks, Steve! That’s good to know. I gotta try it. (After Deer Season!!!) 😀 8)
in reply to: Interesting Article in American Hunter #45793Just a couple of clarifications –
1) “Karl Miller of the University of Georgia and Stephen Kroll of Austin University, among others, have done extensive monitoring of fairly representative groups of wild deer…”. These are not Farm Deer.
2) Drs. Miller and Kroll have been studying whitetail for close to 40 years, so I don’t doubt their credentials or credibility. They pretty much confirm what many suspect already.

The other “experts” were or are the marketeers selling the stuff or getting paid for endorsing these products.
I don’t disagree that sometimes it works, but more often than not, it scares them away too. If the scent is anything,,, it is pure curiosity, nothing more.
I have seen deer, bucks and does react to scents both positively and negatively.
Personally, I think it’s all snake oil. There is no substitute for good scouting and knowing your area.
in reply to: New Member #43743Welcome, Catfish… like your handle too.
in reply to: NO DEER, BUT THIS WAS FUN… #43737Ol’ Cottonmouth! Might make a good bow backing? Good dog too!

in reply to: A Miss and A Test of Resolve #41625IMO.. Traditional Hunter’s hunt for the hunt’s sake. As said many times, it is about the journey along the way, not the end result.
So what did you learn from your shot? Other than the temptation to drag out the training wheels.:roll:
STICK WITH IT.. IT WILL COME.8)
in reply to: Catch a dream foundation request #38741Rich over at Droptine Traditions website is a big Jack Howard fan, and he migt be able to offer some help. They also have a Jack Howard forum.
in reply to: Washing Clothes: Baking Soda? #38739I use Arm & Hammer detergent with Baking Soda and a Scent Elimination Spray (Ti4 from Scent Shield). And it seems to work well. I had 3 bears within 10 yards last year, so that tells ya something about how it works.
in reply to: Who is your bowhunting hero and why? #32445Yep.. Have to agree with most, My only “Hero” is Jesus Christ.
Never had any bowhunting / archery heros mainly because I had no mentors other than my friends, so I am for the most part – self taught.
Although, I owe most credit to my Dad, who always had time to take me fishing and introduce me to the outdoors.
in reply to: I saw him before he saw me… #32442Beautiful!
in reply to: Almost Time..!! #29672HI, Ben.. our season does not open until Saturday, October 16th. I think we wait the longest in the country for the Archery Season opener. On the plus side we can hunt until the week before Christmas.
I plan to start out with my Northern Mist Reverse Handle Longbow. I am guilty of baby’ing the Halfbreed for special shoots only.
