      That’s funny!!!

30 years ago I carried them hind legs over the shoulder. 😀 But I was so much older then, I’m younger then that now. 8)

I’m sure if you go over to the LW or some other sites and do a search on Wallpaper you will find something to your liking. The only problem is,, it isn’t yours, so ther than aesthetics it means little. I find taking your own pictures more rewarding.

Yup, I concur on the Eclipse Glue Ons! Love them! Easy to sharpen and very solid and dependable.

Yup.. some of my best friends shoot compounds. And I can tell you they are superb hunters in their own rite. But, I agree. We are all of two different paths.. the compounder always thinks, why do we traditionalists handicap ourselves so much. While we on the other hand, pride ourselves on mastering the bow, the essentials of woodcraft and eliminating the junk.

I would never start a fight in church, but to me. The compound is not a Bow. By any definition – it is a machine. And that’s a fact. It’s an arrow launcher aided by cables, cams and pulleys.

You’d think these folks were preparing to go to war. This is the kind of marketing (and the same ad machine that attempts to create the “hunting celebrities” that Petersen speaks of) that helps perpetuate the adversarial, über-aggro mentality. I hesitate to call this “hunting,” at least not in the holistic sense.

I (we) are a better hunter, sportsman, man (and women) than that! And if I am considered an elitist because of that.. I can live with that. I could not look at myself in the mirror with half the garbage considered “necessary” by mainstream hunters.

I have always hunted for the table. I was taught by my Dad to never kill anything I do not intend to eat. I kill for the table and I never take more than I need.

Since we are not substinance hunters per se, like many indigenous people throughout the world. That does not mean we are not spiritual hunters as well. We all know that hunting is about the overall experience. We are connected to the earth, the animals, each other, as well as the past, present and future.

Well.. I am 55 in a couple of months. I have had COPD since I was 30. And I am heavily plagued with arithritis (both feet, both hands, one shoulder, the other elbow and the lower lumbar). I like to think I keep a positive outlook (or somewhat bullheaded or both). But, I loved Dr. Thomas’ advice about staying active. It is really crucial to do that. I take my meds and Aleve, and I still manage to climb mountains anyway. 😀 I do it, because no one has told me I can’t. 😆

Sorry to say it already has. I made a comment on Longbow Hunters on Facebook yesterday. While waiting for the Rose Bowl to come on I was flipping stations on the “Sports” channels and stopped at the opening of a show on the Outdoor Channel: “The AWA (“American Whitetail Authority”) Whitetail Pro Series” – a COMPETITION Show where sponsor / self proclaimed “pro’s” compete in getting the best deer (or something like that)! Since when is hunting a competitve sport! I thought oh great, here we have a group of Forrest Gumps and celebrity wannabe’s giving hunting another huge black eye in the view of the non-hunting public. One of my New Year’s resolutions is going to be to start writing these show sponsors, and let them know I will lobby hard against their products, if they keep supporting these shows.

The real hero’s are the Mom’s and Dad’s, Grandad’s and those that take their children out and teach the outdoor way of life, give advice freely to others and share knowledge without expecting to get paid for it.

Always look forward to reading Don Thomas’ writings!
