Focus Grasshopper! If the mind is astray, so will be your arrows.
“I think therefore I miss”.
in reply to: 2015 mast and fruit crop outlook #59485Good news: Lots of winter snow and rain will mean abundant mast.
Bad News: Abundant mast means deer can be anywhere in the fall!
Good News: Find the Beech trees and you’ll find black bears (usually at higher elevations).
in reply to: Ground Game #59475I agree with all that’s been said. I also prefer natural ground blinds, as deer and other animals readily accept them, not so with commercial blinds. Also, like the idea of multiple blinds, to suit deer patterns and weather conditions. As in any situation, there is such a thing as deer getting too close, once inside that 20 yard perimeter their six sense begins to kick in, so always be ready for the shot.
in reply to: Canoe paddling – Backcountry College #59465One of the items on my bucket list is to build a cedar canoe myself. Maybe a winter project.
in reply to: What ya got goin? #59460You would think after decades of shooting we would know better! In the “off” season, I am known to experiment with anchors, tabs, gloves, form…. then as usual I get tangled in my shorts and all heck breaks lose. And I couldn’t hit the ground if I tried! Thank goodness I recovered today, and I’m back to my time tested form and ability! Thank God! Local Fathers Day shoot next week!
Other than that, there’s a hungry trout out there waiting for my fly!
Have a good summer everyone! Safe travels! Those going to Compton’s… wush I was there, but will be in spirit!
in reply to: Memorial Day reflections #37613Very nice post, Col Mike.

in reply to: What Ya NOT Got Goin'? #31619Oh man! I’ll take a covey of quail over a turkey any day!!!
Keep in mind I am in the Northeast and have not flushed a quail covey since 1980.. sad, very sad.

in reply to: Where is your anchor? #31179Thanks, SH !!! A lot of life changing events over the past couple of years. All good now.
Good to see your familiar handle on TradBow too!
in reply to: martin ml-10 #31137I had a Martin Stick, years ago. Don’t let anyone ( with all due respect) scare you about “hand shock”, with proper brace height, arrow weight and grip, hand shock would not be even noticed. I shot mine a lot, and hunted with it. Wish I still had mine, but I cracked the glass in the upper limb in a bow stringing accident, left me black and blue for days, just thankful it wasn’t my jaw or my eye! Enjoy the Stick! It’s a nice bow, and will shoot well.
in reply to: Mitten's article in the current TBM #31122I enjoyed Mike Mitten’s article. I can relate to the author’s position, not sure whether it is number of years hunting, but for me the thrill of the hunt is the hunt itself. I have passed up a lot of smaller bucks over the years, and some years that has meant an empty freezer. I just like letting the younger bucks walk. Just my personal preference . Having said that, I still believe ANY animal taken in an ethical fair chase manner (regardless of equipment used) is a well deserved trophy.
