and here i thought it would all be standardized. either way i still start off with a full length shaft and the field point id like to shoot. I stop cutting once it flies nice and pretty. lots for me to learn here from all the experience. thanks for the reply.

IMHO, i would start with a high string nock and adjust accordingly. I take a week or two maybe more to tune out a dozen arrows. Once I get tired and form goes out the window, i hang the bow up for a couple days and start again fresh. I really could not figure out how a 70-75 shaft was still weak with a 190 field tip from a 51# bow. All I can say is that I kept shooting and cutting till the bow told me what it liked. Once the arrow flies perfect i know its time to move on to the next arrow. From extreme nock tailing left to perfection in a week or 2 of relaxed and patient tuning. Take your time, you’ll be so much more satisfied with the results. good luck brother

The strangest thing happened this morning. I made a cup of coffee and decided to take advantage of the windless morning to continue tuning. To make a long story short, I bareshafted a 70-75 sitka spuce arrow cut down to 29″s with a 125 field tip. I cannot not even begin to explain why this would work and wont attempt to. From 10, 20, 25 and out to 30 yards it shot like a beautiful dart without fletchings. Ill see how the rest of the shaft tune out, atleast i have somewhere to start. I really was hoping to tune them out with a 190 Field tip. At this point I’m way to happy with the outcome. Ill let you guys know how the remainder of the tuning turns out. I have 10 more shafts to go.

I just about to switch out the field tips. Now, is it possible that i have lowered my string nock enough to give me a false reading? i need another cup of coffee

those limbs!!!! those limbs are just beautiful! JaVa man does it again and again. I’d love to quit my job and become his apprentice. There’s something pretty cool about being asked, what kind of bow is that? Its a java man bow!

Tune them out with you (test points), once you have great consistant flight…….your BH’s should fly just as clean. Im in the same boat. I havent purchased my Bh’s either but i am tuning some woodies with Field points from TH until im ready to buy my Bh’S.

                            goodluck tuning

good luck in your search. I finally recieved another bag of goodies today. ill start my testing next tuesday. Ive come to a conclusion that I should have ordered 100 nocks instead of 12count. Unless im going about it all wrong, Im going to have to cut each nock and dispose of it until my arrow is flying straight after each cut. Once i glue it on i dont see how i could heat it up and remove it. (Is this how it is done)? This will be my first time shooting woods

would DF be lighter to shoot than Sitka Spruce. It is the lightest of the shafts that i received. what weight BH’s are you using.

absolutely gorgeous bow. i just received my shaft test kit form Forrester Shafts. Ill be tuning them sometime next week, i have to say im really digging these tapered leopard wood shafts. Congrats on the bow, i too will be enjoying his elkheart to the fullest and already have a bad feeling that im needing another bow for next year. Maybe a Helms Deep, y’know for back up

i join you in your happiness
