in reply to: My new Longbow arrived today! #50703
That white outline sure does look sharp compared to the red! Really gives it a clean look. Gotta love a new BW! Congrats on the new bow!
in reply to: But Whose Counting? #41856I bought my license Sunday with the intention of sending my tag in first thing Monday…of course I forgot …sent it off this afternoon, hopefully it’s not too late. They cut back antlerless tags quite a bit this year.
I’m counting down every single day!! Can’t wait!

Sounds like a great thing to do! Once you have the form built and have made a bow, you will need to make one for your dad too.
Longbow? Hybrid? Recurve?
Graduating from college is a great time of life. Enjoy it fully!
A friend of the family fortunately already has the form and heat box built because he’s built one from the same kit. We’re building a 58″ 3 piece recurve. Should be great to learn on. Once I get one or two of these down I’d like to start making one piece bows, that’s my ultimate goal. We’ve already got the riser block for a second bow for my Dad as well 😀
DWC, Binghams has been around for a long, long time. You call them up and they mail you everything you need to build the bow, besides the forms. They send you blueprints, DVD’s, riser block, epoxy, all glass/veneers/cores for the limbs, and all hardware. It’s a great company and where a ton of bowyers throughout the years have gotten their start. I will try and post some updates as I go.
in reply to: What ya got goin? #41602Like to poke my head in every now and then, have just been a lurker lately…my Dad decided to buy me a Binghams kit to build a bow for my college graduation present. All of the materials just came in, starting that this weekend.
Hopefully things go somewhat smoothly on our first build, this is the first step towards building one pieces, which has been a dream of mine for a few years now.
Hope everyone had a great Memorial Day!
in reply to: Antlers 2015 #35706I’m heading out saturday…really hoping to find some bones from the big guy I saw this season so I know he’s still around, haven’t gotten a chance to put out the trail cams yet…:D

DWC, you’re right on all accounts. It is some of the prettiest country you’ll find in the eastern United States and I can definitely say I’m lucky to have grown up here and have a camp on private land on the banks of the Allegheny River. Like a little slice of heaven (minus the tundra-like temps coming off of Lake Erie).
in reply to: Southwest DIY Javelina Hunts? #57393Man you guys are going to have fun. My vacation bumps up to 3 weeks right around that time next year, that means 1 week for the PA rut, one week for AZ, one week for the beach…I’ll be watching the report from this hunt closely :lol:
Good luck guys! Be safe!

in reply to: Custom Bow Makers #56420You’ve already gotten plenty of good suggestions – but one more to toss in the pot is Jared Marinelli at Journeyman Traditional Archery. I bought one of his personal bows from him, and he treated me like I was buying a brand new custom bow from him.
The bow is gorgeous and shoots twice as good as it looks – mix that with incredible customer service and you’re getting more than your moneys worth. I think his run right around $650 and can go up from there based on upgrades.
Stalker Stickbows and Zbowsticks are two more great options. Stalkers in my opinion are the best of the best.

in reply to: Last PA bow hunt #56411You had a heat wave over there! It was -10 here in the morning yesterday, with a wind chill of -25, then it warmed up to -3 for the evening…I could only make it for 2 hours, but it was better than not getting out at all.
Sad to see archery season go, wish it lasted longer in PA…
in reply to: Interesting arrow info #30361That’s great info. Really helps reinforce the idea of penetration over speed.
Woods aren’t the only issue, it’s tough to achieve an 800 grain arrow no matter what material you’re using 😆
Mix that with a sharp broad head, and you’ve got a winning combo.
in reply to: Western PA shoot #57095Looks like a blast! Was this just a 3D shoot at a local range, a trad only shoot, or just a set up one of you have at your own place?
I live in Western PA and go to all of the big shoots during the summer time, but definitely miss it when the colder weather hits.

in reply to: 2014 Hunting #44558I sure do love chasing Pennsylvania whitetail, but those pictures sure do make me wish I was in the mountains chasing elk. That territory is something else. In the fall I’m sure it’s seriously amazing. Already looks like it’s breathtaking.
Good luck on your last 9 days!!
in reply to: Improved Shooting Glove #37240[quote=Steve Graf Sort of like latex vs sheep gut I guess 😯
😆 yes, exactly like that! I’ve always shot best with a calf/seal tab…I like the ease of a glove, but you know what they say, if it aint broke, don’t fix it 🙄
in reply to: 7 year spike #35905Awesome picture of camp, and an equally awesome pick of you with the spike. Congrats.
Have you ever tried your hand at astrophotography? Something I recently picked up this summer and it is incredible once you get the hang of it. Your picture of you standing in camp has some awesome night sky elements to it.

in reply to: Thought I would Share….My first Longbow Elk #35869Congrats! I get shaky enough coming within 15 yards of a whitetail, kudos for getting the first one out of the way. I’m sure they’ll all be cake from here on out 😉 😆
