Curious about the smell of a bike. Would animals associate a bike with a human smell? In other words, how far away should I park the bike? (I got another one after the last one was stolen)

I had a bike that I spent a lot of time modifying for hunting. I made a rack for the back, found a very reasonable trailer for $100 and was practicing riding to various stand locations. Its faster, quieter and really a neat way to get deep ahead of the guys walking in.
Unfortunately, it got stolen last week so I won’t be able to actually use it this year. If you get your bike fixed up, get a good, no a great, lock, and a superior chain. $40 for a lock and chain is nothing compared to the cost of the bike, particularly when you have some homemade modifications.

My guess is that the arrow length you are using is hitting a harmonic at that pitch. It starts with the paradox right off the bow. In other words, the paradox is the same length as the pitch wavelength(or a multiple thereof). Try shortening one or two arrows to see if that is the issue. I know you don’t want to screw up a good thing, but just out of curiousity, you might shorten one a half inch or so and see if the whistle goes away.

The other issue I wonder about is this FOC. TJ discusses the desired FOC formula in his book and these heavy tip arrows don’t seem to match the formula quite right. How important is FOC to you guys that have been shooting a long time? Does it make a big difference in arrow performance?

Well, that kind of answers that question and it didn’t appear to be much in the way of can of worms. I can’t pull too much weight–45 @ 28″ and I pull to 30″ is about all I can manage due to a couple of shoulder surgeries. I’ve been concerned about this FOC issue with broadheads over 125 gr. Trying to stay within “industry” recommendations, but maybe that isn’t what is advised. BTW, I just started shooting 18 months ago and can put 5 in an 8″ ring at 20 yds pretty regularly (on the range that is!) so I plan on hunting whitetails this year. I dont’ ever plan on hunting anything bigger than that.
              Thanks for your advice, guys.

Hey thanks for the advice Greg. I’m getting better but not where I would feel comfortable hunting yet.

Those of you that have built your own bows, have you been pleased with the finished product(s)? I bot a hickory blank a while back and want to start working on it. It was listed as 40 at 28″. It didn’t cost me much ($25) so I don’t mind playing around with a few things. Do you generally get a bow you can shoot after your first one (assuming you are careful and diligent) or do you need to build 2 or 3 before you get the idea??
                  Interested in your thoughts.

Is it true that birds have more feathers on their left wing? I heard that for years but don’t know if its true, I never counted.
