in reply to: Some Game recipes… #13051
I’ve never ate the marrow just to be eating it. I do like to take leg bones and boil the marrow out to make stock for soups and stews. Lots of great flavor in there.
in reply to: Some Game recipes… #12929That may have been a little misleading. You do have to trim up the cut of meat and get all the tough stuff off it before you cut it in half and butterfly it. Its worth the effort.
in reply to: Some Game recipes… #12922I had hoped there would be a few more recipes on this thread. I basically feed my family on wild game all year long so I was kinda looking for something different. I’ll add one of my favorites to the list…I hope everybody does likewise.
1/2 deer back strap
1/2 pound bacon
grated parmesan cheese
A1
minced garlic
salt and pepper
Take the 1/2 back strap (just cut it off the deer and cut it in half length wise) and butterfly it. Pour in a little A1 and throw in some minced garlic and season with salt and black pepper inside the butterfly. Then pour the parmesan cheese into the butterfly. Don’t over do it (esp with the A1). The parmesan just holds in the moisture.
Next, pull the meat back together. Season the outside with salt and pepper. Then take strips of bacon and wrap it up tight. It helps to take butcher twine every inch or so and tie it up after you wrap it with the bacon.
Heat your gas grill to high. Or have a really hot bed of coals for your charcoal grill. Throw your stuffed, bacon wrapped venison back strap onto the grill and cook on all sides.
I like mine to bleat when I cut into it so I just cook it about 2-3 mins per side. But cook it however you like it. I swear it is the BEST cut of meat you will ever eat. I try to get my friends to go to the steak house to eat when we hang out…they make me cook this instead. Give it a try. ENJOY!!
in reply to: First Black Widow!!! #12883I called Black Widow today. They said the bow shipped on Sept. 05, 1995. I guess I just love 95 models no matter what it is. On a side note, I’d like to say that the folks at BW are the nicest and most helpful customer service people I have ever dealt with. I love this bow but after talking with them I’m tempted to save up the cash and buy a new one from them. I like to spend my hard earned money on a quality american made product. I like it even more when I call the company and an actual person who is nice and helpful picks up the phone. I still by albums because the artist gets the money…I think, in time, I’ll buy a new black widow so these great folks can get paid for what they deserve.
in reply to: arrow material #10896I just got into shooting traditional about two years ago. Its been alot of joy and alot of pain…as most love is . I shoot carbon for quite a few reasons. For one, its the only arrows I can find local. They are also built to exact tolerances. But another reason is they are tough as nails…I have shot them at rocks and stumps and everything imaginable, just trying to break them (my wife was once sponsored by carbon express so I was obligated to put them to the test). With regular use they do not bend or break. With flat out abuse it is hard to break them. I am not a fan of aluminum though. They bend and break too easily. I may swap over to wood some day. But not until I get to the point that I can hit the target everytime. I still flub up and miss the entire target from time to time. But thats just my reasons. There are people here who can give you better reasons than I ever could. There are also guys here who swear buy wood too. Its just personal preference.
in reply to: First Black Widow!!! #63864Hey guys. Thanks for the replies and the compliments…they mean alot, especially coming from this community.
Dave–I’m right there with you on sticking with time tested (not used or old) things that work. I’ve got two trucks and both of them are used 95 models. All of my guns are second hand. All of my bows, other than my compound, are second or third or fourth hand. I’m still a young man I guess (I’ll be 29 in two weeks) and I’m sticking with the wife I’ve got now. She’s beautiful and she puts up with all my bad habits. The biggest problem we have is deciding which one of us goes hunting and which one needs to stay home with our little girl. I love familiar things that earn their keep time and time again. Theres only 4 days of deer season left here in TN so I doubt I get a chance to get any blood on an arrow this season…can’t wait til next year!!!

in reply to: First Black Widow!!! #63534Here are a few pics. I got to shoot it a little more today. I’m still completely happy with it. It shoots like a dream…best groups I have ever shot with traditional tackle. No buyers remorse here! 😀
in reply to: About to give up. #30345Yall may be onto something now that I think about it. When I first started it was alot more fun and I seemed to shoot better. Then I started trying to “perfect” my form, arrows, aiming, just about everything you can think of. Then when I started trying THAT hard everything has went to pot. Now the exhaustion of which I spoke is mental because I get SOOO mad when it doest work out right. And when I get that mad it just kills me. I burn myself out on it and I get to the point I dont even want to try anymore. I may hang em up til spring and start fresh when the turkeys start gobbling. Maybe give myself enough time to cool down and maybe forget some bad habits. Thanks again to everybody.
in reply to: About to give up. #30326Thanks for all the info, advice, and encouragement folks. Sorry it has taken me so long to post a reply. Work has kept me busier than I like to be in deer season, lol. My two recurves are only 45 pounds. The longbow is 55 but I very seldom shoot it. I think I shoot to the point of mental exhaustion more so than physical. I shoot 70 pounds with a compound so I haven’t over-bowed myself. Thanks alot to everyone who has replied.
