in reply to: It's getting CLOSE! #35996
Man, I’m afraid you may not know ticks until you venture into the woods here in Kansas, at least over the past few weeks. I think we’re on a mission to start raising and selling ticks!
On the topic of Tom Gobblers, I’ve spent two days in the woods since the season opened Sunday past and have seen quite a few birds, but have only laid eyes on one Tom. I’ve heard a lot of gobbling and continue to be patient. Running back out this evening after work to see if we can intercept a few birds with the decoys and a blind. Wish me luck as I continue the search for my first Bow harvest!
Has anyone been able to bag a turkey yet? I’d care to see your pictures!!
in reply to: Show and Tell #31280Obviously, just speculation, but that’s one fine looking piece of lumber splayed out there.
in reply to: It's getting CLOSE! #24477A buddy and I found a couple of flocks within a couple of hundred yards of each other yesterday while out building ground blinds for this years whitetail season. I took the time to carve a nice little nich out under a big 1/2 dead cedar overlooking a small clearing. Archery turkey opens next Sunday and I hope to be there before anyone else! Lord willing…..
A few weeks ago a couple of close friends and I were out shooting targets. I had my 45# recurve and a 1/2 dozen arrows- 3 GT 5575’s and 3 GT 3555’s. While the 5575’s shot well from my bow, the 3555’s were too weak. I shot the 3555’s fromm Z’s 40# longbow and they shot really nicely. I draw 28″.
in reply to: BirchBark Rover Quiver project! #20873Man Rip! If you keep this up, you’ll be having to send me a couple of these!! Look nice and super functional.
in reply to: ArkanQuiver #19885Inspiring indeed! Makes me want to dig up all the leather in the house and try to explain to my wife just what happened to that new purse she had!!!
in reply to: ArkanQuiver #19203Lookin good!
in reply to: Turkey Video #13247Mad talent! That’s an awesome video! Thanks for posting Clay.
in reply to: It's getting CLOSE! #59618I’m strongly considering getting a pair of tags to see if I can send a feathered shaft after a gobbler! I’ve never hunted turkey before and am sure I’ll be on my own, but I’ve been in the woods where I deer hunted this season and have seen a few flocks moving around. It’s exciting enough to get me going! Hope everyone has an enjoyable spring season.
in reply to: New to me "old" longbow #52240woodchuck wrote: Thanks for the reply Dave! I took the bow by the bow shop, unfortunately, it is resigned to a wall hanger. The wood is too dry to even attempt to string.
On the good side, I did get to shoot a new long bow (Bear Montana) and got bit by the bug. Currently have a old Fred Bear Grizzly and a Hoyt compound. Think I will let my nephew have the Hoyt and go to longbow shooting!!
I too have an itch for the Montana!! What a great bow for the price point.
A friend of mine is giving me an Indian Mohawk (apparently from the 60’s or 70’s) that I’m anxious to get my hands on. I too have concerns as to what it will be like to shoot and how much longevity to expect from it. Good luck!
in reply to: Been chasing aoudad again. #50149Man that looks like some really challenging terrain to cover. Nice photos!
in reply to: Don Thomas Deer carry method? #31511No hard feelings, from me or anyone else here I’d bet- ‘good habits’ (boning an animal out in your case) are hard to break and can be worth more than a thousand words in reward… 🙂

Okay, so since I’m dying from curiousity, was a picture of this method taken this year Mr. Don? I would like to learn a new trick!
in reply to: Arrow swinging off shelf #29497This happens to me from time to time as well. What I’ve found is no matter what I’m using- glove or tab- it has a lot to do with where on my fingers the string lies before I draw, and the movement of my fingertips as I draw. Like this: I’m right eye dominant:wink: and thus pull the string with my right hand, one over two under. If I rest the string on the pads of my fingertips, but as I draw, bend my fingertips to point toward my ear, the string more or less rolls into the first joints of my fingers, thus turning counter clockwise and throwing the arrow off the shelf. I’m still learning and always trying to convince the inner me that “CONSISTENCY IS KEY”, meaning if I’m going to shoot from the pads of my fingertips, I ought not bend them further in as I prepare to draw. Hope this makes sense.
