in reply to: Almost done #12690
It was with a low brace height in the photo because the string was incomplete. In fact the string in the photo did not even have serving material yet.
in reply to: Shooting Game Already Dead..issues? #9306I don’t shoot enough animals to have the luxury of a testing bed. 😆
in reply to: Our Rights are Quietly being Stripped Away! #8184Our politicians are too busy to worry about our petty problems as serfs. They are busy scheduling appointments with Oprah Winfrey and Good Morning America. Giving away our tax money to Wall Street and unions. The guy sitting in the Oval Office certainly knows a lot about history. He thinks that Hirohito personally surrendered to McArthur and does not understand the difference between a soldier and a terrorist who targets non combatants and holds no honor. I guess that’s why they call him a progressive. I don’t know..
Now to the gun rights. Old deal. Not knocking you for posting it at all. The fact is both political parties are not looking much different right now. It has been this way for a while now. None of them can be trusted if you ask me. Vote with your money and in the polls. Any politician who is willing to surrender or erode your right to defend yourself isn’t worth a turd. It isn ot the only issue but it certainly is a measure of their morals, wisdom and intelligence. In fact if you read anything about how the 2nd Amendment came to be you will be sure that it wasn’t for some ragtag military use but instead for personal use. I could go grab my book and post a good quote but it would be like preaching to the choir boys.
in reply to: Kodiak Magnum Limb Damage? #61259You might be in luck. There’s a guy who is from Washington that goes by “the real bowdoc” on Tradgang.com. His name is Don Ward.
He’s got a good reputation for fixing bows and restoring bows. If anyone could tell you it might be him. I cannot personally vouch for him but have heard he does good work.
in reply to: Cold Hands #50662I don’t live in Michigan but when I hunt where it’s cold I will always consider taking mittens where you can fold back the area around the fingers. As long as when I do this action it does not make any noise and as long as they are warm enough then I consider them good enough.
in reply to: Wood Arrows???? #50657Halfahun pretty much covered it from my perspective. I shoot cedar and carbon. Mostly the carbon for consistancy and because it breaks less often than cedar. That breaking was one of the main reasons I switched to primarily shooting carbon from primarily shooting cedar. I was tired of crafting new arrows.
in reply to: New Bow…but not THE bow… #49861You answered all the questions I had. Thanks
Nice looking bow. Looks like a professional job.
in reply to: New Bow…but not THE bow… #49624That’s an interesting bow form. I have never seen the bungee cords like that being used on a bow.
Let me ask this.. Do you cut the riser out or do you simply sand until you have a piece ready to glue up? It looks like you don’t cut risers from the photos. It appears the wood in the riser is also part of the working limb. Just a technical question..
I want to build a reflex bow form and try a glass bow some time this year.
in reply to: Glenn St. Charles's 98th birthday #49080I managed to get invited to the opening of that Archery Bistro and I knew the big man would be there and I would get a chance to meet him. Upon arrival I saw Glenn St. Charles there with some other great folks and paid a visit. He looked good to me. Most important of all I ate some of those special cookies he carries around and shared a new hunting story of mine with him. He seemed somewhat interested in some of my bear hunting. Although I might be fooling myself.
The Archery Bistro turned the old door of the archery shop into a table top. I am not a fan of the bistro but I ate their food as it was at no cost to me and the people were very cordial.
Happy birthday and hopefully many more to Mr. St. Charles.

in reply to: Group sizes? #49048I practice out to 30 yards. My effectiveness is really good at 20 yards. That’s me. I have seen other guys really just knock the targets down. Then there’s the element of the field which is not really what you want to concern yourself with until you are in the field.
So I would say that my goal is to pie plate 19 out of 20 shots at 20 yards. I practice a lot of 3-d shooting at the range which has various distances as well as ups ,downs, angles and obstacles. That by far is one of the best things to do for my shooting habits. My suggestion is to go out and practice in the forest… Especially when you do not know the distances to the targets, may not always have solid and level footing, where you may have to shoot between trees , over or under branches and things which just do not exist on a flat range. Build some skills in the environment where you will be trying to make it all happen.
in reply to: First Traditional Kill #49039Nice work. Does are good eating. You cannot eat horns and a doe can be just as hard to sneak up on as a buck. Congratulations.
in reply to: Merry Christmas #47861Merry Christmas from Washington state.

in reply to: Helical..RW or LW? #32354I am right handed. From day 1 I have always shot LW. I guess it’s verboten. Someone told me it takes longer for the arrow to stabilize since I do this. Although I have never seen a problem with accuracy.
If it aint broke don’t fix it.
