Ok its like this.Hunting season is usually wet, or snowy, or both. I love to hunt. If it is pouring down, I will wait it out in the camp. If it is drizzeling I will put on the poncho and head out to the hunting spot, and hope for better weather. If it gets worse I will go back to camp. I don’t ever remember shooting at a deer in the hard rain. What ever kind of rain gear I have on it will be difficult to get a shot off.So the chance of killing a deer with rain gear on is very slim. I wear a poncho because it goes on easily, and is not hot like a slicker. When it stops raining it comes off easily, and with little movement. A top of the line G.I. poncho is around thirty dollars.A top of the line gortex slicker is about three hundred dollars. This my friends is only my opinion.

Yo montanaford I never had a problem with my pocho trapping any horse gas or poop. The poncho covers the back of the saddle plus alittle of the horse. It stops a good bit from the tail. I must admitt that was quite an reply from someone who has no experience with raingear.

I have tried it all. Well almost. But the best rain gear out there for bow hunting is the G.I. poncho. It rolls up small and goes on quickly also keep you and the bow and the feathers dry… You can use it for a ground cloth on damp ground or a sleeping bag for a mid day nap. A good used one at the surplus is about thirty dollars. Alot less and more convient than a goretex slicker. Also is you ride a horse it traps the body heat off of the horse and keeps you warm.

Longbows are harder to shoot than recurves. You need to find a group of trad shooters that can hit what they shoot at most of the time and get some coaching from them. I have been shooting recurves all of my life, and now i am trying to shoot a longbow and it is not easy. I am getting better, but only because of my experience with trad. recurve, and help from fellow longbow shooters who show me how they shoot. good luck.

Oh by the way, I also have a 30″ draw length. I shoot a 43 at 30″ BW longbow. Right now I am shooting some 540grn Beemanmfx. I also shoot some 570 grain wood arrows.I do not like to shoot light arrows. At that long draw length the bow is much quieter, and has less vibration with a heavier arrow. A 30″ power stroke make a tremendous increase in the performance of a bow. I get about the same performance as a shooter with a 28@55lb bow.

I like em at least 12grns per pound and heaver. I shoot a bw long bow and I do not plan to shoot past 25 yards. I find the big arrows are more stable, and they knock the heck out of whatever they hit. It is just what I like.

critter 1st of all these arrows are not 10pounds lighter in spine weight than the weight of your bow. 2nd a 190 point weakens an arrows spine very much. 3rd without a spine tester you are not sure of the spine ofthe arrows. 4th with out your true draw length and a scale test of your bows you do not know what their exact weight is. So all of this is simply an estimation or guess.

All I can say is if a man practices with 10 arrows he will wind up with bad habits. I practice with 1 to 4 arrows. I practice best with 1 arrow. This allows me to concentrate on what i am doing. Shoot 1 arrow 10 times and see how well you really shoot.

I tell you critter 40 to 50 pound bows are always in demand, and don’t last long on the sales list. If you see one you better jump on it.

Well guys I just bought a BW longbow. It is a very nice looking bow. Although I am not a longbow man I will give it a good try. I like this one better than the other longbows I have owned simply because I can hit the target repeadedly. And that is at 20 yards. I must admit that I like the feel of my old recurve better, but will try the long bow for a while.

If I draw a tag ,I will hunt over a water hole as baiting is not allowed. Although if I kill a deer I can hunt over the gut pile and be legal, as long as I don’t move the pile.I am not a good enough stalker to take on a blackie.
