I once read something that stuck with me: Ethics are what we do when nobody is there to see us
That about covers it for me.
People like Ishi hunt to survive…next meal, life sustenance and all that… I’m pretty sure I’d do a lot of things if I were starving or very hungry that I’d like to believe I’d not do, “if nobody was there to see”.
As for killing shot? Well, I think most of us would agree that the neck or TX Heart is a “low percentage” kill shot. Sure, it can happen, but it’s not what we would want to count on…
Sums it up for me! I don’t need to kill an animal, and I don’t want to kill an animal so bad to gamble on a shot other than a broadside lung/heart shot.
Sound reasoning to me guys.

Good luck!!!
in reply to: Best Natural Cover Scents #63625in reply to: String knocks #60270I use that knot nowadays. I like it. Takes a bit of practice to get the correct tightness, just a matter of feel and learning process.
I’ve also started using two nock sets. I nock below and I put another knot a tad under the nock itself also. Why? Some say it’s a good deal and bothers me not 😀 to have it there.
Thanks for sharing.
in reply to: What ya got goin? #59792Of course my camera wasn’t where I was today, twice.
I got on a muley doe with two fawns then a little while later I got another muley doe up with one fawn. The fawn bleated and so did I and momma started looking for another little one. That was fun.
I honestly believe prey critters have a 7th sense that let’s them know whether I’m hunting or not. Kinda like the pictures of herd animals in Africa just watching the lions walk about. Those deer all were within 50 yards of me, they studied me for awhile, then just moseyed off.
Like the herd animals in Africa though, there’s always a leery eye peering at the lions and at me here in my world.
P.S. I got to play with an atlatl some. That ain’t as easy as it looks. Got me to wanting one though. I figure if I lived to 96 I might get proficient with it. 😀

We have a winner…
But for today’s high-tech hunting world, it really needs a catchy name if you want it to become popular…how about something like, “Tootzonic Flatulax 5000 by Mossy Oak?”
“As more and more hunters take to the woods, I need a cover scent that not only tells me which way the wind is blowing, but also ensures that there are no other hunters downwind of me. The Tootzonic Flatulax 5000™ does both, and now has a permanent place in my hunting kit.”

So that is why we find so many empty cans of beenie weenies out in the field?
in reply to: Zwickey Delta Giveaway #57415in reply to: Best Natural Cover Scents #56471Sagebrush mostly and some cedar. Walking in SELECVTIVLEY dry cow piles helps for the boots. I ain’t rolling in it! Walking good nuff!:D
in reply to: Food for a Backpack Hunt #55079Jim, if I had a peanut allergy I’d starve to death come hunting season.
Between PB&J sandwiches and Payday candy bars………..:D
in reply to: What are your favorite trad pictures? #54239in reply to: Trad Transport #52973Well if nothing else, bug venison can be on the menu in the summertime. Tenderized upon contact.:D
in reply to: Trad Transport #52855I have my ’03’ Dodge diesel (for some dumb reason, desiel:D is the hardest word in the world for me to spell correctly twice in a row). Had a ’98’ before this one. In my work before I retired I needed the rig a lot of times just to get to work so I could work long enough to retire.
Anyway, do not, again, do not trust any quick lube place to check all your fluids for you without double checking yourself.
A new transfer case is right at the $2K level of replacement.
Never a drop in the driveway to give me a warning, only the clankity clank when I engaged 4 hi.
Ouch.
Anyway I’ll get it back. Gotta have the ground clearance to get thru the mud, sand and whether people realize it or not, at times deep snows here in the Texas Panhandle.
Perhaps oughta stay outta that deep. 6′ fence that be. 😀
At least I have a 30 mpg Ford Escape so I’m not afoot for over a week.
My truck is better off on the hunt being 3/4 ton 4×4 with 6 speed manual tranny. City driving wears me out.
in reply to: Broadheads #51491Grizz, I’m not intending to start any debates here but there are a lots and lots of deer taken with “normal” set ups. I feel that a person will do great if he knows his equipment and his game as with any weapon or projectile he uses. I know s..t happens but that can happen to anything, big or normal.
With limitations of course. We have to be practical.
Just my thinkin, Ralph. 🙂
