in reply to: What ya got goin? #28796in reply to: I draw the line way, way before helicopters #17018
I have to drive an hour and a half to where I hunt, park my vehicle and start hunting. If I could afford it what would be the difference in transportation means other than cost and noise perhaps. 10-15 minutes travel time compared to an hour and a half. More time to hunt.
Or is my truck more traditional than a chopper?

in reply to: What ya got goin? #38516in reply to: What ya got goin? #58729in reply to: What motivates us to do what we do? #60442Just kinda funnin there, we had not TV til late 50’s then we went overseas and what little TV that was there wasn’t in my language for sure.
I’m still a year older than the movie though. That don’t change:roll:
Why do we do what we do?
Why do I blind bail practice working on full draw while using my Saunders Fab Tab. Love the tab but my lips don’t. Ouch.
Makes ya wanna not reach that anchor or go back to that nice soft glove.
You’d think at my age I wouldn’t have to keep learning lessons the hard way:wink:
Not knocking tabs, just today it beat me up.
in reply to: Re-Thinking old Thoughts on Woodies #59593I know!!!:idea:
I’ll glue an acorn or two on my hat and they’ll know it’s just another nut loose in the woods. 😉 They’ll come a runnin!!
Ahh, there’s that runnin word again. 😡
Never tried to shoot one comin at me though:)
in reply to: Re-Thinking old Thoughts on Woodies #56785Steve:
I may buy a single fletch jig with a straight clamp so I can play around some this coming year.
I have a Jo Jan 6 fletch with left helical clamps, set exactly how I like it and hate to mess it up for an experiment.
I have gone to mostly 4″ feathers though, about 3 1/2″ if I’m 4 fletching.
😀 The 3 1/2″ just cause that’s the way they come out of one of my choppers..
Doesn’t really matter much though, no matter what king of fletching, it hasn’t helped me hit a running turkey. Seems my stalking skills improve their running skills.
Obviously there’s another aspect of archery other than fletchings that I need to work on.
Maybe if the arrow wasn’t spinning they might not recognize it as a threat and just stand there looking stupid like with their pea sized brain you’d think they should be…Smart a**ed little ***ts
in reply to: What motivates us to do what we do? #46983I guess it’s been in me since I was born, to be out and about in nature and away from it all.
Fortunately I had parents that allowed me to roam the country.
Then when I learned the love of a longbow and quiver of arrows to go along with my roaming ways, whoa.
Most of my peaceful times are and have been roaming with my bow, hunting or stumping or sharing a traditional gathering with friends and family, all are treasured.
Peace and quiet anymore is a deserved thing.
Happy Birthday and happy trails.
Speaking of birthdays, “It’s a Wonderful Life” with Jimmy Stewart was on last night. When I saw when it was made………..golly! I’ve watching that show for a long, long, long, time. It started when I was one 1…. Makes one feel 70ish or something.
in reply to: Re-Thinking old Thoughts on Woodies #38747Dang Steve, beer causes the bed to do some weird helical’s sometimes too. No telling what you might be seein!!!!!!
Left wing just more purty. 😀
Steve I was thinking on this last night, so I’ll ask a question.
I have no straight clamps nor a bow I wish to set up for plastic vanes so I won’t experiment with this but a question regarding shaft rotation arises in my little brain..
If one fletches an arrow in straight fletch using plastic vanes which are smooth on both sides, will there be no spin in the arrow?
Just wonderin…..:?:
You oughta hear it in Texican. 😯 🙂
in reply to: Making sure they are sharp #62520Yup, a file is a whole lot easier to carry in my gear than some of the other contraptions people seem to be in need of to get their broadheads sharp.
I can sharpen mine with a file to the point that they slice thru loosely held notebook paper with ease and I’ve no problem with that at all.
So whatever suits your fancy as long as it’s SHARP.
In all my years working as a power electrician there’s no telling how many feet (miles 🙄 ) of cable I stripped the insulation off of. I learned really quick that a sharp knife was invaluable but I also learned that too sharp of an edge would dull quicker. The razor edge was too fine and would turn away when it rubbed against the metal.
I did have good quality tools.
Just sayin!

The ice is so dang hard around here it ain’t leaving any tracks other than remnants of vehicles colliding.
That may not be scary to some but that’s 1/2″ of solid ice and I ain’t movin’.
It’s mule deer season but I don’t wanna drive 60 miles on solid ice to go. Driving me nuts though (pun 8) )
They’re low enough IQ’s running around on the roads without deducting ice from their score.
in reply to: Re-Thinking old Thoughts on Woodies #15019Yeppers, there’s a lot to “making work what ya got”.
Of course there’s extremes one way or the other that ain’t never gonna be totally right but there’s lots of little, simple things you can do to a bow to maybe match it to an arrow rather than spending money on different arrows all the time. I got a lots of time and little money.
Simple to me, buy wood arrows 5 lbs. stiffer than bow weight at my draw length, cut to 29 1/4″ so that makes a finished arrow of 28 1/4″ (One main key, spend more time on making sure the shafts are straight than about anything else you do), put 3- 5″ feathers (4″ works fine for me too), left wing my preference. Put 125 gr. or maybe 145 gr. points on them and shoot.
May have to diddle with side plate in/out, nock set up down.
That works for me, simple, no complications. Arrows fly straight and true from my point of view, go into the target straight and I’m happy.
I agree with with ya Grumpy, the old “KISS” works for me….has for eons.
in reply to: Happy Thanksgiving #45468Hey yeah, Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m still on my longbow turkey quest.
Not today though, there are other life priorities like family and giving thanks for our lives. Should be a daily but OK too to have a special day for for a great big THANKS…
And remember, you can get anything you want at “Alice’s Restaurant”. :D:D
Some remember uh!!!
What is bounty if we don’t have a heart full of gratitude????????
