Like an old mentor told me one time years ago “It’s simple and nobody said it was easy but damn ain’t it fun”…….
Welcome and enjoy…….Lots to learn………..Lots of fun ahead…..I’ve never found a bunch of more enjoyable people to be around in all my travels as a bunch of trad shooters.

in reply to: RIP my trusty Shrew Classic Hunter #7931That’s a shame Alex. Glad you didn’t get hurt more. T’was a pretty bow…
I know the feeling of “wearing” a bow when it fails. Makes ya think twice for awhile when you’re drawing another.:(
Kinda like getting bucked down off a horse though, gotta get back at it and go on.
Good luck on your choice of new bow.

Let me rephrase below a tad, “When I think I’ve seen it all, I just click quick”.. :D:D
in reply to: This may be a dumb question but.. #52288Not tryin to get your business, just a problem I found once and thought it might be helpful.
We’re to get snow again tonight, no blizzard though thank goodness. Falling snow one thing, 60 mph blowing snow another.
Gettin any snow your way yet Grumpy?
Ralph…
in reply to: This may be a dumb question but.. #49736Just a thought Grumpy but I had a funky little noise and a feel on a recurve once at the tip ends.
It was sporadic. I finally figured out it happened basically in cool weather. I use to keep quite a bit of string wax in the tip grooves and on the string loops thinking it would help with wear and tear in that area.
I had so much wax that in cool/cold weather the wax was stiff and causing the problem.
in reply to: What ya got goin? #36814Ha, Alex! I’d probably be so busy looking at all those trees in one place that I’d not see the deer for forest.. 🙄
Bet walking around in that sounds about like walking in a bowl of cornflakes uh?
Speaking of noise, I was watching a Nature program last night and they were showing how burrowing owls make sounds like rattlesnakes as a defense method. That I knew and had heard them do so but last night on the TV I could not hear the rattlesnake buzzing and my wife said she could.
Think maybe I need to pursue that………
That could be troublesome in my world.
in reply to: Workin on yer problems #18401When you get old as me you forget what you were up to by the time you go pull and arrow and reload. So better work on my problem whilst I’m standing there.
I know this is a bow hunting site but there is more to archery than a one arrow end. It’s also a learning place. If you shoot one arrow, walk 10/20 yds, whatever, one way then walk back the learning curve may be a slow process..
Ya gotta learn to shoot well, then you go hunt….
I feel that if you can hit the same spot several times in a row your concentration is getting as much or more work out than just doing one shot. First shot is important but so is every other shot you make.
Besides, I pick another spot near to where I made the first. I’ve torn up way too many arrows trying to hit the exact same spot cause there’s times when I do.
I can hit the wrong spot consistently sometime too though 🙁
And, grouping arrows is fun…………..:D

in reply to: What ya got goin? #40764It’s not always about the bow
Just had to share this.
A good friend of mine has some land here in the Panhandle with some mighty fine deer on it (I don’t get to hunt it darn it).
He brought this young man to his place, very terminally ill, and let him take this buck yesterday. Last hour buck!!!
There is still goodness and kindness in this troubled world……

I went in last week and made sure I had clear shooting lanes so I can ambush my buck I’ve been hunting from a different spot. I make sure there’s nothing in my way for drawing my bow, .
That’s great. Often overlooked is clearance for the recoil of the bow.
Nothing like the whack of a bow limb smacking a tree limb. Not only does the animal turn inside out trying to leave the country there’s a definite possibility of damage to the bow.
Good luck!!!! 🙂
