Hey Doc, sometimes things like the sunset I captured “on film”:D and sent to you awhile back put a factor into things that so many people will never understand why we do what we do or why we are what we are. That part of nature and things like maybe a particular cloud formation or a deer posing or many other of Mother Nature’s doings seem to become more important as we age whether photographed with a camera or a mental picture implanted that just pops in your head at times. That’s a part of carrying a bow quietly through the woods that are treasured more than any to me. It’s things like that that I wonder about what I missed today because I stayed in bed.

Yes sir David on the light,”What color are they seeing?” I worked for years with a young man that was color blind. He could not see red or many other colors but he saw them as something and something different. He saw the brake lights of a vehicle when they came on, red or not to him, he saw them light up so why would a deer or other critter not see something when the red light comes on. I too see them look at the light at times from my hidey hole (I have a pop up blind set in a deer crossing and gathering point just cause I like to watch) but also they get so they seem to totally ignore it. ?????? By the way, Happy New Year up there!

Yep David, after my ordeal last year of locating then retrieve my mule deer buck and messing up my hand, which by the way is usable but not over it and probably never will be, I no longer consider shooting late. That doesn’t mean though that I haven’t gotten way far from the truck in my wanderings. There’s things like the possibility of there being a metate in the rocks over there or the remnants of a camp on that flat or a shiny object that’s caught my eye on yonder hill. I always carry a flashlight or two in my belongings as I get caught away quite often. Modern flashlights can be way small and way bright. I have no problem with the modern version of a torch.

I turned the alarm off and rolled over more often this year than ever before, some of it being I hate to hunt in the wind whether some people say it’s better not. I’ve figured out that at nearly 69 years old I don’t have to hunt in the wind if I don’t wanna :D. The old adage of any day hunting is better than one not, umm. Maybe so most of the time but not always for me anymore.

Some of it being papa daddy with boys in high school, some things take prescience over others.

I’m older than you but still in good shape for an old guy but the gung ho ain’t there sometimes as much as it used to be.

I hunt hard and like to take an animal but I’ve become more animal specific, not trophy antlers or anything like that (they’re nice but not a specific goal) but more so the situation, the stalk or I dunno exactly, something just ticks in my brain yea or nay the release. There were many years when I had to go, stomped at the bit the night before but I seem to have mellowed out some. I still love it and will hunt as long as I can but it seems to be more of an “on my time” deal anymore.

I absolutely love to be outdoors and hunting is just another reason, maybe an excuse, to be there. Ralph

Now that we got all that figured out I hope everyone can see their way to a bright and Happy New Year. Ralph

My thing will be flinging a midnight arrow into my backyard javelina target by flashlight light (I have a wally world special 200 lumen light that lights up the backyard), if I have a willing flashlight holder:wink:. I bet I can lay that bright thing on the ground and it’ll work. Hope a plane don’t land. I don’t use it when hunting, the spotlight thing you know ). Alex hasn’t told me about anchor point interference and night goggles yet 🙂

Where we going with this? :D:D I’m getting looney. Up at three this morning and home at dark. Tired.

Hey Alex, you can use the night vision goggles while Mike’s got the game warden occupied on the sled. 😆

I use a flashlight cause I don’t like rattlesnakes, cactus thorns or mesquite thorns! 😀 Or drop offs:)

Alex I knew where you were headed, just me thinkin out loud.:D

Yep, 2nd that. Little spike I could’ve shot this morning would be trophy with my longbow. My freezer’s full so no need to shoot. He’s a mental trophy though. I don’t miss much at 10 yds. except for that stinking piglet 3D target:evil::evil:That thing has me jinxed.

There’s places where you’d probably automatically be guilty of poaching. Or at least a game warden be mighty curious what you be doing with bows, arrows, and night vision goggles. I’ve been places that if you had a gun and a spotlight in your vehicle, not matter if the light was in the trunk or toolbox, you were guilty of spotlighting. Just thinkin’:D which ain’t always easy for this old guy.

Oh yeah, night vision goggles interfere with your anchor point?:lol::lol: Just askin’. Don’t throw rocks, just funnin’.

Troy, from what I research and from knowledge of the Pecos River area from years of working in the Roswell south to Carlsbad area (my wife is from Artesia), pigs are plentiful along the river drainage. There is plenty of access to the drainage, you just have to find the right roads and when you do you can go for miles. Of course the pigs move around so locals probably help. I don’t think the pig hunting in NM has gotten way commercial yet. In one area yes, around Pinyon. Had a friend/acquaintance that once welcomed me to bow hunt pigs in that area but he became an outfitter and I can no longer afford that “friendship”. Anyway, I’ll stay in contact. I have a contact or two down there and will dig into things.

I woulda said come on up but we, for some unexplained reason have not seen nor gotten a picture of a hog in three months. I know we’ve not exterminated them. I think it’s drought related and we’ve no water or muck in the river bottom right now. I was hoping to hunt pigs. I bought a hog squealer call and was ready to go for it. When-if it comes rain I bet they’ll be back cause we had a bunch and some pretty darn big ones. I guess a pig’s back as high as the 4th wire on a 5 wire fence be pretty darn big. Maybe damn big. 🙂 Will keep in touch and when we start having life at the archery range here I’ll let you know too.

You wouldn’t believe how hard of a time I had trying to track down a target like this one. 😉

I’d probably have to be hunting along the road to find a flying one.
