in reply to: Let's build a St. Charles Quiver #46313
Great project! I would like to try it but can’t find leather to buy anywhere. Any ideas where I can find some?
in reply to: Heavy grain broadheads #45579Wow! Thank you for the response everyone! I am sure you do get a lot of repeat questions from beginners as Dave and Steve mentioned. I would just like to express my thanks for everyone taking the time to explain things that may seem simple or obvious to you now. So far to me, my discovery of traditional archery is like finding the Holy Grail! I am fascinated by every aspect of it.
I really appreciate all of the help. As for shortening my arrows……….I really want to move away from carbon and start shooting wood arrows. My arrow length right now is 31″ though. I have been told that is the maximum length I can obtain on a wood shaft. Is this true? If it is, then to fix the problem of having weaker spine with heavier points, shouldn’t I just try a heavier spined shaft to begin with?I shoot a 55# Bear Grizzly recurve bow. My actual draw weight is 60# at 30″ I am going to try 75-80 spine cedar shafts to start out. Sound good?in reply to: Heavy grain broadheads #45580in reply to: Heavy grain broadheads #44220I will be mostly hunting white-tail deer and mule deer. I would like to use a set up that I can take with me if I graduate to some bigger challenges like elk or bear though.
in reply to: hunting seats #40670I use a 5 gallon bucket with a pillow on top ha! I like it because its cheap, if not free. To camo it up I just slip an old hunting jacket over it. I usually put it up next to a good size trunk and that is my backrest. You can also put a few extra things in the bucket if you need to.
in reply to: lucky weekend #38498AMAZING………..just AMAZING
in reply to: Bird Points #29910Hey everybody thanks for the great tips. I think I have come to a decision. I am going to use the replacement claw from a “Barta blunt” behind a field point. These are supposed to cut a small hole in game anyway. I just do not want to be slinging expensive broadheads into the air and maybe not getting them back. I didn’t want to use only field points because pheasant are really tough birds and are sometimes hard to kill with a shotgun. Hopefully this is a good alternative. The only downside is that this can only be used on carbon or aluminum shafts.

in reply to: Opinons on Misses While Hunting #21716Went out for my first hunt with my new Bear Grizzly recurve last weekend. I was looking for deer and fall turkey but happened to have a coyote come right in front of me at 30 yards. I couldn’t believe it! I gave him a quick mouth squeak and he ran right to me, and stopped dead on in front of me at 5 yards! At that close he could see me and knew I wasn’t supposed to be there so he turned to his right and started walking away. I drew, and let loose, only for my arrow to fly barely over him.
Looking back and re-living the moment, I tried to find an explanation to why I had missed at such a close distance. My thought was that I was sitting down on the ground with my feet out in front of me when I shot. I had never practiced this shot before. My heart was beating a million miles an hour.
To try and correct this I will practice more, “hunting situation” type shots. As for the heart beating a million miles an hour, if that feeling ever goes away then I probably shouldn’t be hunting anymore.
in reply to: Dying natural turkey feathers #17564Hey thank you very much! I will try this out soon and post some pics.
