in reply to: Back to Basics #11393
A bargain Steve, the lucky recipient will need to buy a bigger freezer.
Mark.
in reply to: Discouragement #44431I think your questions have been answered but don’t get discouraged
Only thing I can add is take it slow and when your heart stops pumping and the adrenaline dilutes listen carefully for breaking brush, or stones being scattered any sound that will indicate direction.
Bonne chance mon ami, Mark.
in reply to: Experience #44293Imagine how much poorer life would be without such experiences.

in reply to: The Journey #44279Hi Ron, thanks for posting the account of your eventful journey and adventure I guess its what bowhunting is about exploring and doing it for yourself.
Look forward to hearing where you are off to next, maybe back to Arizona for that elusive Coues deer?
Mark.
in reply to: My new baby #50934Congratulations, traditional values start with family.
in reply to: What ya got goin? #41721Sounds like my sunday morning right up to the point you saw deer, that coffees a killer Saturday I bought a small flask to stop me drinking so much, didn’t help.
Lord knows what the acorns sounded like I had an oak leaf land on my pack next to me sounded like a drumbeat.
Have you bought that freezer yet, Mark.
in reply to: ARE YOU READY? #41489I spent two hours pretending to be a tree stump on sunday morning, it was worth getting up to see the new day but more than a little concerned not to see deer. Ravens, crows, pigeons, pheasant, rabbits and cows but not a single deer so went looking.
58 acres of mixed wood, lots of blow down and moss covering small stuff that made it difficult to move as quietly as I would like. Saw a few deer slots and scat, also found where a buck had been rubbing but it was difficult to age in the wet.
58 acres, I backtracked so many times I had to check my compass halfway thru, good news I was still on course.
Forgot my gloves and face veil, always carry too many knives but I like knives. Probably didn’t need two torches for the morning.
My fear is I take something out of my day sack and forget to put it back for next time.
Happy hunting all, Mark.
in reply to: any advice? #37900I recall a feature article in Tradbow about Coues a couple of years ago, good place to start.
Happy hunting, Mark.
in reply to: Broadheads For Wood Arrows #36756Keep an eye on ebay and you may find some that have been laying unloved for a while.
I like German Kinetics, think they are available from Alaska Bowhunting, probably 3 Rivers but they are also still made in Germany with a slightly different point that I like, not quite a tanto but I think a little more robust.
By the way welcome back to the fold, happy hunting, Mark.
in reply to: Summer fun and early season #36645Vegetable hunting? is this for the vegetarians among us.
After taking the dog out for his evening constitutional took a shortcut home last night and found a cherry plumb growing wild, plenty of ripe fruit, had to check what it was as its the first Ive ever seen.
Reckon they are slower moving than vegetables might be able to trap them.
Tasty too, Mark.
in reply to: broadhead practice #36492One target endless possibilities, like it.
Would have been quite something to see those cedar before they were cut.
Very interesting to see the arrow flight from that angle.
Mark.
in reply to: Back to Arizona! #62041I so want to join you but I’ve got another 18 months to ‘serve’ or at least that’s how it feels at the moment.
Seriously though 18 months and the finance is paid and I am going to do some hunting and visit a few folks, Ive had so many kind offers over the last few years and Ive turned them all down the exception being the Spanish Pyrenees this coming November.
No camp is complete without a good dog, have a good trip, Mark.
in reply to: Camo Face Paint #61857South end of a skunk, like it.
I just thought it made you look very distinguished, maybe even sage like:wink:
If you do go with the war paint dont forget the inside of ears, eye lids and neck
I like a neck sock but it can get a bit warm if you are moving about
But like Jim says most of its psychological and if we believe that counts for a lot.
Happy hunting, Mark.
in reply to: What ya got goin? #27850Hi Jim, welcome back your old man looks pretty proud congratulations did they succeed in making a gentleman out of you:lol:
R2, big sky, easy to forget who’s running the show until you get a small reminder.
Mark.
