Update from southern Mich…….88 degrees last week for three days in arow . Broke all records for the month of March for all time. Today?…….Rain , snow, sleet , hail, freezing rain, thunder, lightening, and low 30’s for temps. Six or seven killed in terrible traffic accidents blammed on the quickly changing weather. Turkeys were strutting, walleyes spawning and the stoutest hatch of black flies and mosquitos seen around here for quite some time. Maybe todays weather will kill some of them off.

Don’t know the real problem but tried to join and to send an E=mail but the address couldn’t receive mail because it isn’t properly registered. Would be glad to write on behalf of bowhunting in general, and also the IBEF requirement as prerequisite to participate. When the group is able to receive communication I’m sure many of us will be happy to help you attain what we have enjoyed for many years.Keep us posted Wexbow

Great photos of your gear.Isn’t it great how everyone has just a little bit different preferance or style of the same basic elements of gear? Ireland is right in getting you on this side of the pond and into the woods for some shooting with real purpose. We sometimes take our hunting for granted until we realize how difficult it is for some guys to actually take part in this great sport of hunting with bow and arrow.

SAM,SAM,SAM,….you’re going to feel any bow after an hour straight of pullin’. Ease into it so it stays fun. Hope you find a straight stick you really like and enjoy shooting. Look forward to hearing about your progress in the switch

Sweet little lady! Is that not a unique grip or is that standard for the bowyer? It looks more like a recurve grip.

in reply to: Critter Stories #20995

I was hunting a swr in Mi after a very very dry summer and fall. Hunting the edge of a very large marsh on the ground seemed to be the thing to do to be close to the only probable source of water. Weather was very hot but it started raining steadily and continued for the better part of the afternoon. Because it was so hot getting wet was not such a big deal. The rain fall soon inundated the many burrows , dens, and nests that had been built in the previously dry marsh. As the rains continued the critters began to leave the marsh heading for higher ground. Voles, mice shrews and all kind of little four legged critters were on the move. They ran over my boots, backpack and any manner of equipment on the ground, never looking to stay or for shelter but only heading for high ground. It reminded me of the stories of the lemming migration in the arctic. Never saw anything like it before nor since.

Hey knot.. never used the tape but similar problems w/ bare shafts . Ifound that after using the alcohol a wipe w/ a damp, not wet rag, solved the problem. Turns out that water is a bonding aid for “super type” glues. You didn’t mention what glue you used but maybe this will help.

Currently live in southern Michigan, after stints in Ky,NJ,La, and almost three years in Alaska thanks to Uncle Sam. Been back to Alaska a couple of times as late as this past summer. While temperate Alaska has the diverse wildlife and fishing available alot of it is very expensive, even for a resident. For hunting or fishing diversity and close range availability you have to give it to Michigan.

                          in reply to: Bowhand #11078

I have several bows that I shoot regularly but find the one I shoot most and most accuratly is a Jim Reynolds recurve with a low wrist grip. I thought it strange when I first began shooting it but soon found it felt as if the bow was a part of me instead of just a bow that I had to hold onto. The fact that the bow grip puts pressure on the heal of the hand seems to diminish the conscious effort to reduce contact with the rest of the hand.Once I got used to it , it just seems like a more natural way to shoot.

All this is very interesting and looks like the science and such is fascinating but are you really going to hunt with these arrows and if so what?

While you will get great advice at these forums another suggestion is, upon your return from deployment seek out and become a member of a local bowhunting organization. They are full of mentors willing to share their wisdom and experience, and are great fun as well. Thank you for your service and sacrifice and that of your family as well.

This is the winter that never was in southern Michigan.Very little snow, ice fishing and predator hunting. Good to give the snow shovel a rest.

I carry a Glock .40 SW with crimsom trace laser. Not a four legged critter in Mich to worry over but the two legged version is whole ‘nuther’ issue. Unemployment and forclosure rates have created so very many desperate people. A lot of drug users with no money to buy so crime is continually rising and spreading from urban areas into areas that never have had problems before. Must be a responsible Victim Prevention Specialist.
