in reply to: Planning an Elk Hunt #47522
I’ll check it out. Thanks Steve.
I really want to experience a western back country hunt with my boy, and he really wants to as well. It’s about the whole experience, not just hunting elk. Even if we don’t see a thing, I know we’ll both enjoy it. I really don’t have much interest in hunting the elk here in Michigan. I guess it’s for those reasons I mentioned. Not that I’d pass up that opportunity though if it ever presents itself.
in reply to: Add weight to a Judo?? #47470in reply to: Value of Reviews #46788Everyone above covered all my thoughts on reviews. Reviews, like those Smithhammer does, are incredibly helpful. My review of the reviews I read on Amazon.com (as an example), would reult in three stars. You have to sift through a bunch of useless bs, but in the end, it’s better to have them than not.
in reply to: Planning an Elk Hunt #46731Thanks! Sorry, I guess I wasn’t being clear. I’m not asking where I should go. I’m hoping for suggestions on how I should research it, so that I can make a fairly informed decision on where we should decide to go.
in reply to: Changing Wood Arrows Points #46614Crap! I should’ve asked BEFORE changing them. 😆

Ditto! It’s a sure, but temporary, cure for my blankety blank target panic! 👿
in reply to: Get a grip! #42896One thing that I can’t quite wrap my head around is that I still use the same “grip” on my bows as I always have, or at least I feel I do. With that said, when I messing around with a Shrew Classic Hunter for a week or so, about 3 years ago, I had a heck of a time getting used the grip. I was used to my Northern Mist Whisper, and it felt like my hand wanted to slide up and jam itself into the “throat” of the handle (maybe I’m using the wrong word). I was worried about the same issue when I got my Elkheart, but I didn’t have ANY issues with switching between the two bows and their very different handles. 😕
By the way, I use a very light grip. Basically, only enough so that the bow doesn’t fly out of my hand when I release the arrow. Since I use a very light grip, I would suggest NOT using a very light grip. 😆
in reply to: Micarta risers? #41447Love those limbs! Be careful though, that riser is made from paper! 😯 😆
You learn something everyday. I didn’t know how micarta is made. 8)
in reply to: Asbell Anorak #39261Great review Smithhammer! I plan on picking one up before fall. It really is a great deal.
in reply to: Northern Mist Silver #36875Oh ye of little faith! 😆
I’ve shot it quite a bit, as has my son. It’s a great shooter…smooth as silk. I don’t use silencers on any of my bows (I don’t own any recurves), yet it is unbelievably quiet.

That makes two of us.
in reply to: Northern Mist Silver #36796😆 You don’t believe me, eh? I needed one more, relatively light poundage bow. Since my first longbow, a 45# @ 28″ Northern Mist Baraga, is my son’s. That’s my story anyway. 😉
Yes, it is a beauty. I love how the black linbs appear outlined by white. I tried to make sure and capture that with the photos.
in reply to: Nesting Dutches – Backcountry College #36792As always, great job Clay!
in reply to: Spokane in March #36723Man, I wish I could make it out there.
in reply to: Antlers 2015 #36719Very cool thread! I love how you have that elk antler displayed, Smithhammer.
