Assuming your current set-up shoots fine, it’s likely that adding 100 grains would cause your arrows to be underspined. If your draw lenght is under 27″, you could shorten your arrows accordingly though, and probably make up for the spine issue.

There’s really no way to know if a set-up will work or not without trying it, as there are always unknowable variables involved in the equation.

Did it come with a packet of koolaide? 😆

Just kidding (mostly kidding LimbLover, Bama Bows unofficial, or maybe even official spokesman 😆 )

          Congrats on your new bow!

I have to get some arrows made up for my daughter and her recurve. She would LOVE that color.

I chronographed and checked the poundage of both Baraga’s at my draw length, which is 30″ with the anchor point I’m presently using:
              Baraga 1 @ 50 lbs: 154 fps
              Baraga 2 @ 60 lbs: 166 fps
Arrow weight (calculated, not weighed) is 661 grains

but i unstring my bow…and twist the string (as to tighten it) and count the number of twists and make sure there the same on both upper and lower limb?

No, you don’t need to twist both ends. Twisting one end will do the trick. Based on my experience, I’d be willing to bet you need a higher brace height (more twists in the string).

If I hit anything questionable, I check the arrow. I heard too many horror stories to take anything for granted with carbons. No way would I shoot a damaged shaft!

That was the reason I was reluctant to switch from aluminum to carbon (many years ago)

With all due respect, did you fall and bump your head?! I can understand eating dog food if you found some and had nothing else to eat and were in desparate need of food, but to INTENTIONALLY pack it when you could pack ANYTHING you want, is crazy!

Oh, wow, I didn’t even know that’s a mechanical broadhead. Ditto what Dave said.

PS: I believe the article about mechanical broadheads Dave is refering to, is the Oct/Nov 2009 issue

They’re better than feather cut bananas, but, personally, I don’t like the looks of them. I just figured a little diversity was needed (not really). 🙂

What if the cams on the compound were made of wood and the string and “cables” were made of sinew? 😆

I guess I’m a bit different. If someone who shoots a selfbow, makes his or her own wood arrows and/or broadheads says I’m a wuss and not really traditional, my response would be…”You’re right”. Compared to that person, it’s true.

I switched from a compound 3 years ago and the fact is, if I would’ve had someone say that I’m not shooting a real bow back then, I probably would’ve had the same response, “You’re right”. Ironically, even when I was shooting a compound, I’d stated NUMEROUS times that I wish compounds couldn’t be used for bowhunting as it would get alot of pretenders out of the woods.

I don’t mind that everyone has a different opinion of what is traditional. It would be boring if everyone thought the same. And yes…technology kills. 😉

I reluctantly gave my son’s compound to one of his friends who never owned or shot a bow before. I had considered incinerating it . Instead, I tell him if he maintains an interest he can step up to a real bow. Now, he DESPERATELY wants a longbow like ours (my son and I). Pyschology 101. 😀

Definitely do as Dave recommends. That’s my standard operating procedure as well.

Right on. When I first bought my longbow (my first one), it had alotta twang to it, and it wasn’t even made in the South. So I added some cat whiskers. That was when I really paid no mind to arrow weight.

Jump ahead a year, and a huge increase in arrow weight. I took the cat whiskers off and only used brush buttons. Then earlier this year, I took the brush buttons off, just to try it, and long story not as long as it could be: I don’t need anything on the string to quiet it down (to me anyway), but that’s only because I shoot heavy arrows.
