I either wear a thin glove or nothing at all on my right hand. I use a heavy mitten on my left. I have a “hand warmer”, similar to what you’d see football players wearing. I use that for my right hand, and when it’s really cold, I’ll sometimes put my left hand in it as well…mitten and all.

After losing the above glove for quite a while, I switched back to my tab and have some observations I would like to share.

While using the glove with my 57# and above bows, I had to move the string from in the joint to a slightly deeper hook. Otherwise my fingers felt like they were going to separate at the joints…hurt like hell. I just accepted that as a problem with my hands.

Since switching back to my tab, I’ve come to realize it’s just because the glove was too thin. I have absolutely no problem with going back to putting the string in the joints of my fingers again…which I prefer.

            I would call this thread:

            “Blown shot, lessons learned.”

The first year I went traditional, I blew my first opportunity on a buck. Didn’t pick a spot and completely missed. Since then, I say to myself, over and over, “pick a spot”. Wounding one really sucks, but it’s bound to happen. I feel for ya. Good luck tomorrow, and keep at it!

I don’t think that’d work. It’s not that it collects in the bottom. It’s absorbed into my clothes before it gets there.

I did have a hot doe run by with two bucks hot on her trail at close range. Maybe it wasn’t rain water after all. 😯

in reply to: The Hammock Seat #42296

Saturday morning, I found the Hammock Seat’s kryptonite: A hard rain. I sat there thinking it was rather odd that my lower back and rear end were getting cold. In all my years of hunting, I had never experienced that before. Even my wallet was soaked. I’m not sure if the rain ran down the tree and into the seat, or if it simply rained on the back uncovered part of the seat. Based on how it looked to me, I’m thinking it was the later. Still wouldn’t trade it for any other seat though!

I sure am! I hadn’t been able to hunt much over the last few years, as I had a lot of drama going on. Finally got my sea legs back, and it’s great to be able to get out there and get at it.

That is great to hear! Great start to what will hopefully be many years of whitetail hunting.

This last weekend was another great one. I had four bucks between 2 and 15 yards of me. No, that’s not a typo…that’s 2 as in two! That particular one was a four point (a typical year and a half old around here), and as he came walking in, he freshened up his scrape, and then proceeded to walk towards me, sniffing the ground. He was so close I could hear him sniffing! Eventually he looked up and saw me sitting in the corn, and bounded into the corn to my right, about 30 yards away. The corn is really stunted there, so I could still see him. He started walking to where he’d end up in my wind, so I snort-wheezed, hoping it would keep him from doing so, and it worked. He bounded deeper into the corn, and that was that. That was definitely one of my all time favorite hunting moments!

I couldn’t shoot any of them because here in Michigan, the first tag can be used on any buck or doe. The second must be a minimum of 4 points on one side.

Thanks! I’m trying to get my son to understand that hunting while it’s raining can definitely be productive.

Update on that spike: My dad was leaving for work the other morning and someone clobbered him with their vehicle. 🙁

For the sake of others who may be as ignorant as I (God help them!), could you please tell me which specific Minwax stain and poly it is you’re using? 😕

Due to the title, I was very reluctant to open the thread. I’m glad I did though, as it was a good read…and thankfully, there were no pictures of you with your pants down!

If you don’t sell it, when you struggle with shooting (EVERYONE has their moments), you’re going to have a difficult time resisting going back. When I switched, now a number of years ago, I got rid of my compound, and was happy I did. Burn that bridge! 😉
