The Sandhill Cranes are migrating in.
They winter in the area and south a hundred miles or so.
They are such joyful sound of spring and summer here and over the last couple weeks have just kind of slipped away. Enjoy them! Can’t wait to get back to hunting after this weekend. I’ve been On-Call for the week and been hammered. I just can’t hunt with a cell phone in my pocket that may F up an enjoyable day in an instant.

I like your attitude! Everyone had something good to say, and yes, I will miss the camp experience with other guys, but “no way I’m staying home, ever” kind of sums it up for me. Thanks for the push..
in reply to: You dont see this every day #29153Just a few days ago here in Michigan, not too far from here, a local Sheriffs Deputy was shot in the hip with a crossbow. The altercation took place at 0200 I believe it was. The 40 year old shooter went nuts – after accusing someone of stealing his pot plants (he started stabbing at someone with a pitchfork) and thus local LE got involved. I won’t judge the man, but I will agree that the MSP Trooper who put this guy down for keeps did the community a favor. I am real tired of people who can’t follow a few simple rules.
in reply to: I think a Dingo ate my Baby! #29139I’m sorry for the loss Steve. It seems everywhere I go too, those “brush wolves” are yapping after dark. They are a success story all their own that’s for sure.
in reply to: Yes! Yes! and Yes! Update #22548Well, thank God for public land or a lot of us would be out of business:D
in reply to: Clay's Gate #22541I thought so too. Good stuff.
in reply to: Just funny. #18846Here’s my offering. Mestigoit from the film Black Robe. That sneer says it all…but I’d say the Hurons had no horses in the time period of the movie…
Ralph – I bought some beeswax candles on a vist back east. I just cut them up and rub away. If you’ve heard of Yankee Candle Co., they are located in my hometown. They had some in beeswax and I bought a few. My father’s neighbor is a big area beekeeper too. Interestingly, he’s experimenting with a Russian bee species that seems more resistance to the issues bees are facing. Russkie bees, who’d have thunk it!

The King of Sweden is a bit of an introvert who doesn’t like to talk about much other than hunting, so they placed my mother beside him at the big banquet and the two of them told hunting stories for hours. More moose are harvested in Sweden every year than in Alaska. Don
Don – I have to say that first sentence is a killer in the best sense:D What a great family legacy. Hope you get one too!
David – I’m very happy for your success and that you have something special in the place! I hope all of us have a place like that to visit this fall.
in reply to: PA Elk Hunt #9948Michigan has had a herd since the early 1900’s I think it was…anyway, it’s hovered +/- 1000 animals over the years. I’ve never tried to obtain a permit. I’m good with a whitetail or two. Several hundred pounds of meat would overwhelm my ability to use it. I didn’t know the KY herd was over 10K, wow!
in reply to: Another Elk Hunt #63450I have been an eastern hunter all my life, but you elkers have got me thinking I have to try an elk hunt.
in reply to: Yes! Yes! and Yes! Update #61298Fingers and toes crossed! Keep us posted.
in reply to: WHITETAIL TWO-STEP #57707Good for you Grumps! It’s the getting it to work part when I want it to work that gives me gas. It’s downright insulting when you believe you have good sneak skills but the critters seem to sense something is moving out of rhythm, even though the chickadees are almost landing on your nose and you can see the spider webs shimmer in the faint breeze…Then again I can be stomping around like a Squatch in old logging slash, not even trying and they nearly run you over…I hope you have found THE secret. I will PAY:lol: Sounds like a real good day. I wish you more!
in reply to: Roosevelt BULLdozer #57660Oh, that’s a Squatch for sure!!! Get outta there:lol:
