maybe with the frogs you just got a little jumpy:wink:
in reply to: Summer Reading #29891I’m into Empire Of The Summer Moon right now – about the settlement of the southern Plains, the Comanche wars, and Comanche Quanah Parker and his unique part in it. Having been familiar mainly with the eastern tribes and those struggles, it’s been an eye opener to say the least. There was just no way the 2 cultures could have co-existed without the struggle that ensued. Many references to the Comanche skill with a bow too! You would not want to have been caught flat footed on the Plains in those days and I think they might have scared the bananas out of some of these drug lord thugs all things being equal.
in reply to: How Often Do You Practice? #18186As far as how long, if I’m where I want to be in the 1st few shots I tend to leave it right there. That helps my confidence to do well “cold” since it’s the reality out in the bushes.
in reply to: Hunting fitness and strength #38437I do a lot of walking in the countryside in my work, shoot the bow a fair amount, a little light weight now and then and re-discovered push ups a while ago. It keeps me from being limited in any way. In my 50’s now and it sure would be easy to just sit on my butt so I try to keep moving!
I bought some Sawyer brand tick, chigger and mosquito repellant last fall in an outdoor store when I noticed too many ticks for me….active ingredient of permethrin did the trick. Sprayed it on my outer clothing and the ticks went vamoose:) One of these days I’m going to spray one right in the face with the stuff:)
in reply to: Thanks, Dave! #40389Yes, nice job! It’s been a pleasure to be part of this site and the high standards it’s kept.

I’m a native New Yorker. 8) And we have it all. Three mountain ranges, flatland plains, superb trout and salmon rivers, beautiful mountain lakes, the great lakes and the Ocean. I have no plans to leave. 🙂
I’m always surprised by how many people just think of NY as just the City! Took me just a split second to remember the ocean front realty:D
in reply to: Critter Stories #14884Good story! Made me think of the time I was turkey hunting and came across a nesting Goshawk. Anyone know what I mean:)?
in reply to: How Was Your Winter? #14216Cripes we’re going to leaf out here in the next week at this rate. I’m feeling a little ruffled as this just seems weird in my gut?
in reply to: Why onestring? #14213Less in more in every way though it may not be simpler or easier.
in reply to: Native Finds #51640I mentioned finding a couple arrowheads up there..well, I had found a 3rd!! It was a perfect Woodland period point, totally intact. There it was lying in the freshly scuffed soil of a log skid trail in a beautiful looking hunting spot – there was definitely a connection there..Well, my 5 or 6 year old son conned me into taking it to show and tell at school. I said fine, as long as he took good care of it and brought it back. He did as I asked, putting it into one of those plastic pudding cups wrapped in a napkin. I promptly threw it in the trash:( UGH! Gone for another eon:(!!!!
in reply to: With A Heavy, Heavy Heart #48430I don’t know you either, but know the pain of loss as so many of us do. I wish you well as you go through your grief.
in reply to: Noteable Quotes! #48100BTW, I’m not saying up there that the quote carries any weight at all – just some 2 cent philosophy before my brain got sore:)
in reply to: Noteable Quotes! #48094“We create our miseries and symphonies. Eternity really doesn’t care. What else do we do, sit on a cloud and eat angel foodcake forever”? – a thought I had on why meaninglessness may be much more.
in reply to: Meat grinder blues #47435Ebay looks to have every meat grinder known to man. If the critters only knew!
