Same here. Before those Bear Razor heads that I think were 125 gr. also? Had a bunch and they did fine for me. Like Archie Bunker would say “I hate change! It’s never the same”! I stick with stuff forever if it works.

But I think the urbanisation of our population is having two effects on our relationship with animals – we’re humanising pets and yet totally detached from meat production. I think this has the effect of creating crazy peta types and over the top animal welfare activists (including anti-hunters) on one hand and unfeeling cruel thugs on the other that will microwave cats, put x-gun darts in puppies and decapitate dogs as illustrated above.

Wex – your comment touched a nerve:) I don’ t hate animals of course, but pretty much believe they belong in barns, not the house…my wife has 2 cats, one a nasty puker that I’ d like to ” take for a ride”, but they are like kids to her. I joke she’ s like a shark with her little remoras always near her. Animals have somehow become human around here for sure 😀

In general I don’ t buy into the world is getting sicker stuff. We’ re all basically %$$!house crazy in a world that makes no sense. It’ s incredible it’ s not worse! Some fraction of the 7 billion of us can’ t handle it and act out and it’ us all over the world in a minute. I think the 20 th century broke some “sick” records too.

The only thing that beats that is a pre-cooked meal bubbling away on the stove! Have hunted with a friend many, many times out of a classic wall tent set-up. He’ s out of state in Wi., and as much as I love going up there, I drive through way too much opportunity here in Mi. that I need to explore.

I guess ” paleoman” because I fantasize life was more of an adventure even though I wouldn’ t really want any part of it:) Also always having my eyes on the dirt for artifacts I’ d pee myself if I ever found a paleo point!

Not to hijack the thread…..anyone see the movie Black Robe? I think there was a scene in there where a grouse got an arrah in the neck or am I dreamin’? Anyway I always thought that was a good one…

I too have some long walks in the dark. Coyotes don’t bother me nor do distant wolves howling. But when they start that nonsense 50 yards away from you in the dark, well, some dormant gene from ancestors long gone wakes up! You see these shows with guys on foot in Africa with lions roaring in the dark…Holy Maria the heck with that!

Get in some thick stuff the critters are using the best and most quiet way you can. Assuming the overall sign is what you want, scope out some potential shooting lanes. Even 1 or 2 3′ openings will do because they won’ t move fast in that stuff. Use that little folding saw you always carry to cut out the stray sapling or two, but only if you have to and cover up any ” shiners”, the little stumplets with a little dirt, mud or other debris. Find some natural depression, combine it with natural cover, enhanced with just a very few pruning cuts for bow clearance and/or just a little enhancement to the cover if needed. Watch the wind and get in there early and be prepared to sit all day. Have a few spots like that and you’ ll ” bushwack” one eventually. If the cover is right you’ ll be able to draw before they step in the lane. Best I can offer since my one pecker finger on this phone is wearing out! Such a huge, fun subject a person could go on and on…

I’ m with ya up there. I have nothing against treestands but they are like a judge said to me “10 hrs on the stand son and we’ ll call it good”. Then add a week or more to that and it’ s no fun to me. I’ m to the point I mostly don’ t care about ” scoring” anymore anyway which explains my choice:D

So..now that we know you’ re normal:wink:, when you were in K’zoo checkin’ out the does….do you find any shooters in the herd or is this trad world pretty much a guy gig? I mean you see women compound shooters but do they inhabit this little subculture to the same extent as the wheelie world?? I dunno..just asking…

My main hobby these days is spending time with my wife and kids and getting them outside, doing art, and just goofing around. I’m my son’s den leader, Webelos I, and having a good time with it. Birding, fishing, canoeing, all good. At the end of the day, watching a movie with my wife knowing the kids are resting peacefully tops it off.

Sounds like at least a few of us came here via the blackpowder route. I still love basic black during the one firearm season I do hunt. I love remote places too..and still fondly think of the rugged New England hills that formed me and the local history that surrounds them…23 years later and I’ m still homesick!

Guess I’ m a sucker for beauty in form and function.

Would like to report I don’ t go dormant in winter but I do. I work outside a fair bit so I honestly have no need for ” fresh air” this time of year. I don’ t get into shooting until the cold and snow have left the building either.
