in reply to: Whatcha Got Going 2023? #162810Not too much here either. Lost any hunting last fall due to my father passing in October and my in-laws health failed at the same time 2 weeks after that, so we had to caregive in our home for 3 months Nov thru Feb 2. Got thru that and moved them to assisted living. 3 days later my wife gets covid (first for either of us). She’s recovering now. Have no idea how I haven’t gotten it yet. So way better than being in Ukraine but I sure hope better days are coming! Planning on a trip to Maine in November so right now I’m gassed just to have something to plan.
in reply to: Real Tree or Artificial #161739We hang our bird feeders off the deck so we can see up them up close from our kitchen table. After Christmas we tie the tree to the deck corner right by the feeders. The birds love the cover all winter long.
in reply to: Turkey Day #161665Same back to you and everyone here! I’ve been re-reading some New England history lately (where I grew up) and from what I gather Puritan/Indian relations were actually not too bad during the time period known for Thanksgiving. There was mutual interest in good relations on both sides at the time for many reasons (good and not so), though not all the regional tribes were fond of the English. Up until 1675 when King Phillips War started both sides at least made an attempt to live side by side resulting in 40 or so years of general peace. The Natives got the short end in the long run as we all know, but there was an effort made by the Puritan English to be fair, if on their own terms, so the story that it was a planned, one-sided genocide during that time, at least in the New England cradle of Thanksgiving is not true. The Thanksgiving story has a basis in good relations between both sides and that shouldn’t be lost in some of the contemporary revisionism. But hey, I’m no historian so Happy Thanksgiving!!
Hope you have some time this week. Sitting in the house encumbered with too many responsibilities. I’ve been seeing a buck or two lately moving in rut mode from the LR window. With the weather changed to cold here in Mi you PA guys will have it tomorrow most likely. Go get one! Have a great time.
in reply to: Rotator Cuff Stuff #160886Thank you Robin. If you could send the 2015 pdf I’d appreciate it. That must be what I was thinking of since I believe I was a subscriber then too.

in reply to: Whatch Got Going 2022 #159491Yo Ralph! Glad to hear from you and I hope your pinched nerve might be better now? I hope so but I know those things resolve on their own terms. Any day without pain is a good one. I’m coming up on my first month retired and lo and behold my wife was accepted into an early out program our co offered. So I thought I had a few years of “the life” with the Mrs still working! She’s done next week so off into the wild blue economy of retired life we go. Finally summer hit up here in Mi a few weeks ago. Have had a stretch of awesome weather. Maybe a big storm incoming today and it’ll be my first not to have to think about. Life’s good! Stay cool down their in Texas.
in reply to: Whatch Got Going 2022 #159225Thank you guys for the welcome backs! I will try to contribute and chime in from time to time.
in reply to: Whatch Got Going 2022 #159216Hi All – I was an active member here more than a few years ago and drifted off. So to anyone left that remembers, a big HELLO! I just retired after 32 yrs in the electric utility biz. No more watching the weather for the next disaster:) I had one day “free” after my last day of work and found myself in surgery for a big a-s couple kidney stones! Planning to camp, fish, shoot and yeah, fix up around the house.
in reply to: Ground Hunting #149882Good tip on putting the support rod against the tree. I’ll have to try that. The noise the material makes when you move has been one of the problems. The other is I get picked off on the ground too much, even when the wind and background cover is good. It seems as though you stick out like a blob on a tree and the deer get it! Otherwise it is light and portable. I have given thought to dispensing with all commercial seats and just roaming until I find good cover and sign but then if you do snuggle into the bushes you have to have enough clearance for the bow limbs. Such problems!
in reply to: Busted From Tree #149657Thanks Stephen! All you say is spot on. I would not have taken up this challenge without much acceptance of most outcomes. I had a great day in everyway! From the coon I got a great pic of in the morning to the Barred Owl on a limb 30′ away that observed me with that presence owls hunting at dusk have. It was the best of days, but eventually every drought needs some rain! If he’d been in the open enough for a shot before he busted me I think I’d have seen that, hope so anyway..but as I recall that 1 more step was what I needed. I have no hunting bud these days as my best is in another state and with Covid not planning on traveling this year. Thanks for listening and taking a few to respond. Good luck in your adventures this fall and all here stay healthy! No better place than outdoors.
