Thank you both for your replies.

Ron, I did a swap for the knife sharpener. I read up on both sharpeners quite a bit and it seemed that the knife sharpener was the way to go. I have the 200s and 160s set-up within a few grains of each other using different combinations of brass inserts and/or steel broadhead adapters. At longer yardages (30-40) there is virtually no difference in flight or point of impact. Will spend tomorrow evening shooting and make a final decision. Thanks again for the feedback. Mike

I would buy all three…or make that four including the Stalking and Still Hunting book. Volumes 1 and 2 have a few hunting stories included and those alone made them worth the price! Mike

Not sure what they called the finish on the SAs. You definitely got you a good bow. I started with a Widow MB years ago and then went to a MAIII. Shooting their longbows now. There are a lot of great bows out there, but the Widows work well for me. Congrats and enjoy!

Didn’t sound negative to me at all! I am looking at Thousand Lakes Outpost out of Thunder Bay. Have been researching quite a bit over on bowsite. Ever heard anything about them?

The outfitter I am looking hardest at seems to cater to bowhunters. Biggest reason i am looking at Ontario is the ability to drive it. I have a few friends that have hunted in Alaska and it seemed to me that the air transport of meat back to the lower 48 was not only a hassle, but and expensive hassle. This outfitter offers both a drive-in hunt and a fly- in hunt. Camp is set up with food, water, firewood and camp necessities. Personal guide services are extra. No firm decision made as of yet, am still just testing the water so to speak!

I’m 56 and I am shooting 55#@28″ out of my MOAB and I will have new MOAB tomorrow that will be 54#@28″. Shoulder doc told me to stay under 50# and we compromised with 55#. Shot 65# on stickbows for quite awhile and when I shot wheels, 85#-95# was the norm. Been shooting thru everything from caribou to pigs with 55# and plan to work on staying between 50# and 55# until I can no longer get around. Mike

This has by far been my slowest season as far as deer sightings. I have not even had a shot opportunity. Late season has brought more deer sightings, but no shots yet. I did a walk-about yesterday and located some active trails and while ground hunting this evening, I actually roosted 25-30 turkeys. So tomorrow morning I am going turkey hunting and hope that deer wanders by! Mike

Gold Tip did buy Vapor out. Google Big Jim’s Bow Co. as he carries the current vapor line of carbons and he may have some of what you are looking for on hand. Big Jim makes a sweet little r/d longbow too!

If I remember correctly, the numerical designation had nothing to do with the spine. I think the older 3000 series was a .400 spine and the 4000 series was a .340?!? The newer Vapors are spine marked and the weights are similar to the Easton or Beman 5/16″ diameter carbons-.400 spine in wood grain or camo = 9.1 gpi

At the Cloverdale Shoot last summer, I bought a dozen of the camo Vapor .400 for about $40. I don’t care about the camo or wood grain that much but it is what he had the deal on and they are a tad heavier than the black shafts.

                      Good Luck! Mike

I would have to stop and cipher it out, but in my county alone I can kill 10 with a bow-1 buck and 9 does or 10 does!
I usually I shoot a doe early on for meat and then save my archery either sex tag for a “special” buck and then use a bonus tag for another doe that I donate to a local mission. I must admit that I haven’t shot a “special” buck for quite some time, but putting one in the freezer and another the mission is doable unless work cuts into my hunting time.
For residents our tags are pretty reasonable. Archery either sex is around $25, first bonus is $25 and then it is around $15 for additional bonus tags. Indiana is a one buck state (all weapons) with special draw hunts being an exception. IF I had been smart, I would have bought my lifetime license years ago when it included all of your deer, turkey and small game tags.
Less than a week ’til deer and turkey!

I have tried a lot of rubber boots. I have had surgery on ea. foot and have very wide feet and finding any boot that is comfortable is tough to do. Mucks are by far my favorite. Mike

I have spent the past two weekends working on my brother in law’s property….62 “huntable” acres with 55 acres being wood ridges with an overgrown creek bottom to the west side and 7 acres of overgrown pasture.

I am in an enviable situation in as much as long as I keep the old trails and logging roads clear and the old pasture mowed it is mine to hunt and do with as I please. I just spoke with a local farmer about an hour ago and he would like to plant the pasture in either clover or alfalfa next spring. I am definitely good with that! All I have to is some repair to the old logging/entry road and drop a culvert into a small overflow ditch and my mowing job is cut waaayyy down!!

Next spring I plan to plant some milo on the sunnier sections of the trails for the quail and turkey and am looking into some native long stem grasses for cover for them as well. Coyotes and feral cats have taken their toll on the quail population around here and when I clean up the limbs around the pasture edges I am going to pile them for more “bird” cover, rather than burn them.

Lots of work, but I really enjoy it…..shame I can’t make a living doing this, ’cause I’d retire now and do something I really enjoy!!!:D

Dave, I have been laid off form work for a few weeks and I had the opportunity to work some long hours yesterday, so I didn’t get to check on the tungsten. I will be working Monday and Tuesday, but off after that, so I will check on the tungsten then. Sorry for the delay. Mike

Dave, I will check my source(s) here tomorrow and see what kind of price I can come up with. Should be able to get back with you Friday evening for sure. Mike

Dave, what diameter are you looking for? I have access to several welding supply shops here and I know it is available. Let me know and I’ll see what I can do. Mike
