Here’s my attempt ..
Bow ..Morrison 15 inch alloy riser with short 50# TT extreme carbon limbs, 56 inch bow , 52# at 26 inch draw
Shafts…. Widdowmaker smash 350 cut at 27 inch ,27.75 inch nock grove to end
50g widdowmaker alloy outsert
200g stainless insert with 190g tusker Concorde broadheads
5 inch r helical fletch x 3 ( haven’t started shortening them yet)
30%foc as per tuffhead site calculator
730 g total
These stats will likely change as my shooting improves.
The shafts are designed by mick at trophybowhunts.com.au
And are quite thin yet very robust( around 5.3 mm OD with a thick wall) there 10.3 gpi , he also makes some very strong broadheads …

Just wondering if anybody has some tips on how heavy an arrow I can shoot from my 50lb longbow or my 52lb recurve.
Heading home to NZ for a trout hog and stag filled summer.
I’ve got 5,000 achre ranch/ farm to camp, fish and hunt, solo.
Thinking 15/28 yd max shots, just wondering how heavy I can go, to drive the point home.
Actually looking forward to camping without a single thing that wants to do me harm, although may get a nasty bite on my thumb if I try to pick up the trout largemouth bass style.
I’m sorting out either Grizzly’s or RMSGear cutthroats, both fly very well but I do like the larger bodyed Grizzly.
Thanks in advance for any help or tips.
KiwiGrant ….do I recall that you have one slightly toxic spider….. Not to mention those big killer parrots lmao ( the ones that will eat you’re pack and bow within 5 mins ??
I’d be safer on the Gold Coast lol

in reply to: Snake skins #37616I wouldn’t mind a set of limbs…. Guess I best check with customs first…. Here there just best avoided and left to there own devices unless there around ur house…..
in reply to: Snake skins #34203I’ve eaten them…. Not reply then thing to sit down at the table with cutlery and the family China
If you’ve ever picked the last scraps of meat from the ribs of a 3 day left over roast chicken….. That’s pretty much it….

Morrison Archery seems to use copperhead skins a lot on their bows. You might give them a call.
I have a few pressed flat and waiting on a bow. But so far I haven’t made a bow that I want to use them on… As far as catching them goes, I like ’em dead without a head before I pick them up. A shovel works well for that.
Hi Steve ,
Do you tan or treat the skins prior to use?
It’s illegal to kill them here( a commonly ignored law here)
Given the nature of Australian snakes ,the best and safest way to extinguish them is to bend up some fencing wire about 3 yards long ( think steel bow string) it being flexible makes it way easier to break there spine…. You just bring you’re buckles close to the ground as you whack them..
That’s my trivia for the day

in reply to: KAYA ILF Limbs #33564Hey Carlos .
I’ve looked at them but know little….perhaps ilf is a dirty word here lol. The price of those kayla k3’s is good isn’t it
I’m also looking at Hoyt Grand Prix 720, they come up to 50# and are available in extra short( on a pinnacle that would give you a 58inch bow….Or 55 inches on my 15 inch Morrison riser).

in reply to: FOC and lightweight bows #33544Thanks guys ,
Yea I spotted him last night while reading… I’ve got 55 years of bs…. Not that insighfull though lol
Steve I had similar thoughts re the 130g judos ,but it didn’t dawn on me to use a heavier insert doh( was looking at 140 g single bevel outback trad’s alloy insert for 175g then a 100 g brass insert)… Steve, Re the toughhead site it’s a candy store, bottles full of tempting treats .its in the ” reading list” ( getting to be a bloody long list to)..
The same arrow for everything is what I’m after( cheaper lol) and the side benefit is the trajectory of ur arrows will be similar??
I’ve got to up my bow weight to 50# …illegal to hunt sambar here with a bow under 50#{ makes sense as there under the mooseand elk in the deer size scale
Cheers and thanks for you’re input
Mark
in reply to: Aluminium and high foc? #33505I’m not constrained to alloys , just in a cash drought..also we can’t hunt sambar deer here with a bow under 50# so I have to up my strength and buy new limbs…so $50 au for game getters versus 110 odd for gold tip carbons .
I’ve got some 100 grain gamegetter brass inserts and I’m changing from 125 single bevel out backs to 145 outback trad’s ( 140g ) and a heavy adapter…
I recon I can get to around the 650!g line and into the low 20 percent range, far from a heavy efoc arrow but for a 45# bow it is better than you’re normal light n fast crews arrows
The 99 dollar question is can I get them to tune up nicely lol

Hi all
Dwcphoto would it be possible to get some details of you’re arrow build? …I’m starting to work up to build a 650ish to use out of my 45# red stag…. Any info helps lol
