Sounds great.
Herb Meland with Pronghorn bows also uses a small brass insert. I think flatline bows uses one also. It adds a nice touch to the bow. I am almost certain that Mr. Herb told me that a jewelry company made his for him years ago.
What is the name of your bow company going to be? Good luck and God Bless.
in reply to: My First Traditional Harvest!!! #59239Congratulations; absolutely wonderful first deer with traditional equipment. Good shooting also.
What is your setup that you used?

in reply to: Longbow or Recurve #41475Mark; congratulations on your traditional journey. You will have a blast with either choice. You will ask 10 different men about longbows versus recurves and get 10 different answers. I personally like longbows better. I enjoy shooting and hunting with the longbow more. I have heard that people who use to shoot compound bows seem to have an easier transition with a recurve. It would be really good if you could shoot both and figure out which one you like best. The most important advice I can give you; is don’t over bow yourself. Get a good comfortable draw weight starting off. Another very important thing is to HAVE FUN.

in reply to: Fred Asbell Wool Haversack. #25956I did manage to make a short hunt with the new Haversack. I have realized that it does have some advantages over the ” fanny pack ” but it also has numerous disadvantages. It will take several hunts before I completely make my mind on which pack works the best for my style of hunting. One thing I noticed immediately was how silent the Haversack is; it makes zero noise. I realize each hunter has a different technique as to how they hunt. I feel that the fanny pack is a little more comfortable while walking. I also noticed a small tear on one of the inside pockets; I will need to get it fixed before the wool rips. I will continue to use the Haversack for several more hunts.

in reply to: Fred Asbell Wool Haversack. #38850Well; I broke down and placed order tonight. Olive drab. Should be here toward the end of the week. I am looking forward to hunting with it.
in reply to: a little sad today. #10454marcb; the good news is that your concerned. You already have the mindset of a Bowhunter. Sounds like your arrow setup is sufficient for whitetail. The Magnus Stinger is a good broadhead from everything I have read. You tried everything in your power to recover the animal; that’s all you can do. Keep hunting and don’t give up. I lost a doe this year during the first week of season. I know how you feel. I felt the same way. I also learned from my mistakes and want make them again. Don’t doubt your setup; that’s the worst thing you can do. There is a guy in Georgia ( Robert Carter ) who has killed over 150 deer with traditional equipment. He says there is no magic broadhead; that they will all do there job; if we do ours. Robert has told me several times when he hits a deer in the shoulder; he wished he had a narrow two blade. When he hit the deer a little far back; he wished he had a big Treeshark or three blade. Keep shooting and keep hunting. The greatest bowhunters that you can find will all tell you they have lost an animal before.
God bless.
in reply to: Treestands #60070Tree stands are sort of like bows; everybody has their favorites. What works for one man, might not work for another. Most of my hunting is less than a one mile walk. I have personally used about five different name brand climbing stands. For me, I can’t sit if I am not comfortable. I don’t mind a little more weight if it is a comfortable stand. A good friend of mine gave me a Lone Wolf climbing stand. It is very light and packs flat, but it is very uncomfortable to me. I can only sit in it two hours max. I have some friends that love them and want use anything but a lone wolf. I am 6’2″ and 230#’s.
My suggestion would be try as many as possible before buying one. I also have found that the closed front makes no difference in my shooting. I just keep my foot platform close to the seat so when I stand up to shoot I have plenty of clearance. I also wear a Hunter Safty System vest. As soon as my feet get on the stand; I secure myself to the tree.

in reply to: Fred Asbell Wool Haversack. #56330Thank you for the information. I defiantly want one; they appear to be very silent.
in reply to: Fred Asbell Wool Haversack. #51270Looks like you got it figured out pretty good. So on the inside of the Haversack there are two inside pockets? Does that give you three different storage compartments?
in reply to: Hunting set-up for 2016-2017 #26807Mr. Steve; nice picture. I have tried for years to kill a deer on the ground with my longbow. I have had several close encounters; just always have hard time getting to full draw. Central Mississippi has a tremendous amount of hunting pressure. We only have a few weeks of bowhunting then they open the flood gates. Dog hunters are the bowhunters biggest obstacle.

in reply to: Tough Nebraska hunt #13566Sounds like your having a blast hunting. Not sure about the deer being nocturnal; could be the weather more than anything. I was just reading yesterday about a doctor from Alabama that completed a 20 year study on whitetail deer. He stated that based on his study; he believes that weather has more impact on deer movement than anything else.
