Wow! Some rules are just dumb. Here in PA the only thing you have to do for a crossbow at full draw is to remove the bolt. Obviously no arrow on the string, but that’s about it. I can understand the reasoning, especially for crossbows, but are they really having problems with people driving around and shooting deer with a 6 foot longbow out of the window of their smartcar? Really? I would actually want to see that. Be well.

I am wondering how that affects compound bows, or even crossbows. Do you have any idea why they do this? Seems if they single out traditional gear, there is some reason. Interesting piece of information. Be well.

I’m going to go out on a limb here (pun intended) and say that if you’re only going tor speed, look at an Olympic bow. Speed and flat trajectory seem to be a must for them. But I could be totally off. Be well.

First off, let me go a little nerd and say OMG, I HAVE NOT SEEN BEAT TAKESHI IN, LIKE, FOREVER 😛 . (I LOVED MXC (Takeshi’s Castle)) Second, I would like to thank you for giving me something to do this weekend when I am in the army, in the hotel, with wifi 😉 (I want to see the front end loader and see what else they have). Third, that is pretty darn cool. How much did that thing weigh? I really have a hard time believing that was just a feather, but still, pretty cool. Hope all has been well. Haven’t heard from you since the season ended. That was a great video. Thanks for sharing. Be well.

Just handed my wife “Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children From Nature-Deficit Disorder” by Richard Louv. I had also given her “On the Wild Edge: In Search of a Natural Life” by David Petersen, but she was slower to pick that up since it didn’t have “children” in the title. In terms of explaining my [new found] passion to my wife, I am reminded of the old cadence “My girl’s a pretty girl, she is a city girl…” Her idea of roughing it is a hotel that only has basic cable. Oh well. Still working on getting the kids “into” the outdoors. I don’t want to force anything on them, but when you are competing with 500 channels, iPod, uPods, we all pods, facespace, my book, hormones, etc, sometimes you just wake up in the morning and kiss them on the forehead on the way out the door. Other days, you purposefully plan the weekend camping trip where you know there is no cell phone service and say “I had no idea this was so remote”. But good for you. I am sure part of my problem is that my ability to convey a point using the English language leaves much to be desired. At least your wife is giving it a chance. (Although who could resist Dave’s allure? 😉 ) In the mean time, I’ll keep working on it from my end. Maybe I’ll be able to wear her down little by little, like a stream to a stone. Who knows? Stranger things have happened. Be well.

I must admit that when I was shooting compound (the only time I shot carbon) none of my misses ever wound up in water, so I cannot be of help there. That is of course not to say that they never wound up in some strange places though. A few I am still looking for. I don’t think I will be going back to carbon as I really don’t feel like buying a cutter. If anyone else has experience though? BTW: love the arrows. They look great. Did you do the flu-flu yourself or was it a kit? Be well.

Gotta ask, how do you get the arrows to float? Or do you just never miss? 😉 Be well.

Not sure. So far, bow in hand, I’ve spent hundreds of hours in the great (and sometimes not so great) outdoors and have accumulated exactly 0 kills. Seen plenty, just haven’t connected. Haven’t even shot for that matter. I still like to “fill the freezer”, but paying the price of what comes with it has made me wait for the “perfect” shot. I could have taken plenty almostperfect, but didn’t. So far, every hunt has been a success, so I don’t really mind the lack of “killing”. Maybe one day. Maybe in late September in QC? But then I have to field dress, butcher……

                          Dave/Robin/et al,

This is a general statement and not geared at this particular thread, though it is inspired by it. I don’t understand any of the legal mumbo-jumbo Dave is talking about. All I know is that it has gotten so bad now a days with lawsuits and fines that it just doesn’t seem worth it. Common sense is something not-so-common and everybody seems to be out to make a quick buck without having to work for it (lawyers, government, etc). I am not trying to turn this into a political discussion, but I am wondering if it would be possible in the future to do something like this, especially for some other worthy [non-profit, I guess] cause?

I am sure there are plenty of archers who visit this forum who would be happy to donate some treasures of theirs. These are usually things that are no longer used, but could benefit someone else. It could include bows that you haven’t shot in ages, an 11 pack of arrows that you realized were exactly the wrong spine after making your first, or even time to take someone with them on a hunt. These can all be things that would otherwise never see use, yet things that people wouldn’t want to just sell outright. But for a good cause? Different story.

So my question is, can we do something like what ColMike suggested in the future (not for “The Good Hunt”, but maybe for some struggling CO elk foundation that is trying to ban ATVs from public areas but has trouble raising funds, or for any youth on this site that might be in need, but is not able to afford, or to send a setup to someone in our military) or is this not something that we will not do here at all due to the legal issues involved?

Again, there are many things I don’t understand, and a simple Yes/No would do fine. This is one instance where I am actually NOT trying to “poke the skunk” but only asking out of my own curiosity. As they say: “the best laid plans of mice and men…” Would have been nice. Be well.

I just want to make sure I understand (sorry if I am being real dumb here). The point end is 11/32″ and the nock end is 12/32″? I am assuming you meant 5/16″, but I have learned not to assume. I believe Benny Hill taught me that one. 😆 Again, just making sure, but I never want to assume any more. Be well.

It’s been really strange here in the Lehigh Valley of PA. Past 2 years were pretty much sans-snow. Last year was the “blizzard” at Holloween, then we struggled to get 10% as much for the rest of the winter. This year was like the one prior, just without the snow in October (but a hurricane instead). We were supposed to get a few “storm of the century” type deals, but the most we got was a coating to a half inch. Truth be told, I kind of miss it. Since I started hunting (only a few years now) I would always go out the last day of the extended deer season here in WMU 5C. I would walk through the snow on the gamelands, look for tracks, moan about not seeing anything and go home. Last year I was walking on grass and this year I didn’t even go (for lack of snow). Be well.

Just as an FYI here is a “Snow Goose Cookbook” I got from the Arctic Goose Joint Venture via the PA Game Commission web site. The file is under 2 MB, but too big to attach 😥 , but here is the web site for reference: Snow Goose Cookbook from Arctic Goose Joint Venture . I am assuming (I know, assume…) that Canadian Geese would follow the same recipes. Hope it helps. Be well.
