in reply to: Draw weight shenanigans #49568
Ha! I didn’t even think about brace height, the bowyers website says my particular model bow has a brace height of between 7 1/2-8″, the bow is currently at 6 1/2″! I bet that’s it, now I feel dumb ha:D I flipped open my T.J. Conrads book and it says I can twist the string to adjust brace height, I’ll give it a shot and report back…
in reply to: Draw weight shenanigans #49517By the way, your Winston Churchill quote is outstanding!
in reply to: Draw weight shenanigans #49514Thanks for the info.
I didn’t measure it when I got the bow, I just figured it felt close enough so I didn’t worry about it. I measured it yesterday because I’m switching from carbon arrows to cedar and wanted to be sure of the weight so I could make an educated guess on the spine weight for the wood arrows since I’m ordering from a place in Michigan. The lightweight carbons don’t shoot to my “natural” point of aim, and at extended distances seem to go a little bit “wild”, I think heavier arrows will help with all that.in reply to: one piece to take down #47367I think ill leave my one piece be. Seems like conversion isn’t the best idea, plus I found a bow maker that makes T/D’s for a reasonable price, in case anyone else is lookin for an affordable T/D google “Renegade Longbows” out of Athens, TX. Nice simple hunting take downs.
in reply to: one piece to take down #46050The reason being is that a T/D would be much easier air-traveling with, but I don’t want to spend the money for a whole new bow.

in reply to: Thoughts on camo, fabrics, etc. #35460I just wash all my clothes in plain water w/o any detergent, then spray “Scent-Killer” all over my clothes and boots, I could be wrong but I don’t think the deer see us glowing.
On the Scent-Killer note, I had a close run in with 2 coyotes once that makes me believe it works.

Great Plains “Long-curve” bamboo limbs
53# @ 28″
60″amo
Selway rawhide slide on 5 arrow quiver
Bearpaw gloveGT traditional 5575 28.5″ 5″ shield cut feathers
125gr MAGNUS 2 blades (Best Broadheads for the $ EVER!)This will be my first season using traditional equiptment, have been practicing for almost 2 years off and on but the last few months i’ve really gotten into it. Gonna be hunting east Texas on state land. People always talk about how Texas has no public land, when in fact there is over 1 million acres open to the public. If your gun hunting you might as well forget it tough, WAY WAY TOO MANY PEOPLE! But there’s lots of archery only areas that have good numbers and quality Deer and TONS of hogs, with very low numbers of bowhunters. Just thought id end the public land/Texas myth… Happy Hunting!
in reply to: Thoughts on camo, fabrics, etc. #31971Howdy pa’tnuhs, new to site, thought id comment on the camo topic. I wear BDU pants and plaid shirts, works great. Also I once snuck up on a group of Rio Grande turkeys wearing a white t-shirt, tan shorts and white running shoes, all it takes is patience and knowing when to move, when to stay still, and proper use of cover. I actually killed my first turkey while deer hunting, I was walking through some oaks and saw a tom about 20 yds ahead, i froze thinking he had made me, and stood still with a savage .270 shouldered for 10 minutes as a group of 20+ turkeys surrounded me, some hens getting so close i could have kicked them. Finally a jake walked in my line of sight and shot him through the base of the neck, thats when the rest of the flock noticed me!
So mostly movement is the enemy, mask your movement and you can wear a clown suit or a white tuxedo and kill most any animal. Camo is designed to open the hunters wallet. -
