🙂 I have small children, can’t afford a collection yet:) If I could, I wouldn’t get this one, I would buy a signed and numbered Bear Super Kodiak special addition in mint condition:)

I’m more about having things that I will use. This is a nice old Bear, but someone else with shorter arms will get more enjoyment out of it and that is where it belongs.

They are probably slightly concave due to factory sharpening, and not a good idea for a broad had edge. Just take a file to them and straighten the bevel out, then sharpen as usual until scary.

Love it! Except I ended up with two at once:), and I can’t quite figure out how to carry both of them and shoot at the same time:)

Nice shootin guys! The game will rue(sp?) the day soon! I put a small black dot at the center of my plates and it helps me focus on a much smaller spot and tighten up my groups!

All good ideas folks. I think I will refinish it and get her shootin, then look at trading it. My girls are young, 1.5yoa. This is a pretty stought little bow at 45#@28″. I draw 29.5″ so the stack is pretty rough, and the darn finger pinch is uncomfortable. I will see what I can do. Anyone interested, shoot me a PM.

              Thanks guys,

Smithhammer, I like the look of the single arrow quiver, but I don’t like the tip of your sharp broadhead sticking out! Yikes! I need to get a new slip on quiver for a new/old 68 Super Kodiak I got. I am partial to the Selway raw hide quivers and like that they hold 6. I keep thinking I am going to someday need all of those arrows out in the field, but never use more than one or two. I liked those light quivers you spoke of in the beginning of this post. I think a 3 or 4 arrow quiver would suffice for the white tail hunting I do now days. any thoughts? (I tent to bring too many shot gun shells with me when I go on a walkabout for sharp tails and huns too:)

I know a bit, but I am sure not all. I love history, and especially the Fur Trade and all that transpired out in your area. I used to live just north of you in the Madison Valley MT. My Dad is still up there at our cabin in the south end of the Tobacco Root Mtns. I spent many years around there hunting, flyfishing, climbing and skiing. Have friends around Driggs, tackled the Grand a couple of times, fished the Snake. If I could choose an area to retire in right now, it would be around there I think. The view from the Tetonia side is second to none!!! Always wanted to kick around there more hunting and fishing. The biodiversity of that region is jaw dropping, not to mention the scenery. Where do you hole up, what you do out there? PM if you like

                      Grumpy,

That old felt crusher has been with me since my dad gave it to me for my 12th birthday way back when. It has seen a lot of trail time and some good hunts!

Smith hammer, and here I thought you were shooting pretty darn good on the first shot, until I figured out you were going for the center bulls eye:) Still, great shootin! I have been doing my cold shot practice almost every morning with my twins. I think trying to make the shot with them running around and making noise behind me on the deck will help making a good shot while distracted, in theory:) I seem to be able to get most of my shots in a paper plate out to 20, and miss to the right edge when I do. Feeling pretty good about season opener in a couple of weeks! Good luck out there in your country. I love that Pierre’s Hole/ Teton River area!!!! Ever read the book “Beaver Dick”? It’s about a mountain man who homesteaded that area.

I’ve relieved myself right from my tree stand several times and have not been busted by it:) Human urine seems to cause more of a curiosity rather than an alarm. I have thought of urinating at prime spots in the game trails I hunt over as the deer will stop to smell it and could help offer a shot:)

Being a knife maker for years, I will second DH Russell Canadian belt knives as a great option for a good quality knife. I have had one in my hunting/skinning kit for years as it was passed on to my by my Dad. The knife must be 30 plus years old and will hold a keen edge. I can go through a white tail no problem, and have gone through an elk in the field with only one minor touch up while quartering. They run around $100. You may be able to find an old one on ebay for a better price, well worth it. Check them out

You boys need to read Doc Ashby’s studies about FOC. Heavier overall shaft weight isn’t nearly as advantageous as adding that weight up front!

I start a prayer of thanks giving as I walk to the stand for having the health, time, and resources to go bow hunting. I give thanks for the chance to slow down and watch and listen. I give thanks for a good clean kill and the meat, and I toast the animal with a little bourbon on the rocks while I’m skinning and pulling the tenderloins out (to be fried up in a cast iron skillet with some butter, salt, pepper, and a little onion ASAP:)

Same hunting rig as last year. 1970 58″ Bear take down. 54# @ 30″. Easton Axis Nano 340 shafts with 75 gr brass inserts. 300gr Tuffheads with 125 gr steel adaptors. total arrow weight 720 gr for 32% UEFOC. Season out here in Western SD doesn’t open up for white tails until the 3rd week in September:( we’ve had lots of rain this month and all is green. The deer look happy and healthy and I get to hunt river bottom with cotton woods and alfalfa. I can’t wait!
