No there not skiddish as we say or don’t scare easy. But they can be very scary I had i close call 3 years back with an aggressive Muskox.
in reply to: What ya got goin? #17316Local Wildlife officer just came into my office smiling from Ear to Ear shot his first Musk-ox with a Bow last night using arrows that i put together for him. He was using a 60lbs recurve said it was a low lung shot broad head came about 2 inch out the other side. Took his camera but it was to frozen to work.
in reply to: How do you keep warm? #41650There is a fairly new fabric called ARCTICA that has been tried and test in the far north that works really well for the outside layer for those who make there own clothes. The other thing is almost every hamlet in the northern Canada has a sell and swap page or something of the like on facebook and you can find some really nice light warm stuff that is all home made and your money is really good in Canada right now.

The funny thing is, I’m hitting very well at 20 yards. Six day firearm just ended here in Jersey, so I’ll have the woods to myself again except for the bear hunters. I don’t hunt bear, I get too cold.
As for shooting, I’ve been working on form and fine tuning arrows. My Kodiak Hunter says 46 under the plate. 30 inch carbon .500 spine arrows. I don’t know my true draw length. I’m figuring about 27. I’m pretty sure my anchor was a problem. I was yanking all the way back to my earlobe, and used 125 grain points because they were flying straight, 175 were showing weak. I changed to index finger to corner of mouth, and 175 grn points because now 125 is showing stiff. Shooting is much better.
How long are your fights
in reply to: Your most memorable misses…. #52003Last summer after N.A.L.S. in the Calgary a nice fellow I met at the shoot took me on a gopher shoot it was my first time in that part of Canada. Had a great day testing my less then great skills. Just before the end of the day we seen a pair of badges outside there hole. I was going to leave it alone because I never thought i would guess close enough in such a big open field but gave it a try. The other guys stayed down wind talked loud it kept there eyes on them. I got to about 50 yards when it turned and looked right at me I drew long and slow released it looked so good the badger reacted one of the guys yelled HE GOT IT the badger looked like it was having a hard time going back down his hole. well he would with an arrow in him. Then he was gone. The badger so about 2/3 out of his hole when i released i ran over to find my arrow stuck on the inside of the hole he had to push it out of the way to go back down the hole. I must have shaved his belly. This one still bugs me more then my big game misses.

I agree which goes back to my point. Hating on good hunters makes better news then “I helped someone with a mental health problem” so some wack-a-doodle didn’t shoot me with a pellet gun. Both our countrys do a poor job of taking care of mental health. Sorry for creating such a sad thread but this affects us all as hunters and people This WILL be used by the other side as an example of why all hunter should be stopped.
in reply to: You dont see this every day #38460I just goes to show you how one sided the media is on hunting and firearms issues. There will always been some bad eggs. It’s not very often you read articals about the better side of things. This person had troubles. what sistem was in place to prevent this from happening. One person kill and a cop injured using weapons that ANY ONE coud buy. Trad equipment should be legally defind as different from modern.
in reply to: You dont see this every day #37457What a wack-a-doodle . Gives us all a bad name.
in reply to: Carrying strung bows. #35839Dog sleds are a hole nother topic that I could go on and on about but i will try and some it up. In the north the inuit are expected to have one foot in each world. If you work full time to feed your dogs you have no time to hunt. Or if you hunt fish set nets and traps you have no time left to work. And this is how the dog sled died here. It is ten times the cost to feed dogs the to fill an atv.
in reply to: TopHat points #34699I have really enjoyed using them. I contected them and asked them to start making a single bevel broad head. But they said its was not in the works.
in reply to: You dont see this every day #28840Yes this is true in Canada. And i agree with your point Given where I live I see it alot of it. Our part of the country does not get much coverage and when we do it’s on the wrong topics from the wrong angle.
in reply to: You dont see this every day #22404in reply to: You dont see this every day #22230Ya this kind of thing can effect us all. Weather it was a mistake or not. If they didn’t meen to then you will see new laws about shooting in your back yard. If someone ment to kill him archers will start to get put into the same group as guns and gun nuts will use this story to there adavntage “take guns away bows work to”. It could really impact alot of what is going on in the media. Couldn’t help but share this one. I will keep you updated If i hear more.
