Thx Robin for adding the pix! I do apologize about my feeble tech ability – and crummy picture taking – but I think the photos illustrate the issue well enough 😯
Well, the bowyer’s good rep is for a reason! He took one look, apologized profusely and is currently building me a new bow! He said he’s only seen it one other time but he thinks it has something to do with one of the laminate layers being uneven at the fade out and he simply missed it!
Thanks for the advise folks! I love it when it all works out. Just goes to show one again, our Trad community filled with good people who do the right thing 😀

in reply to: Harvest limits #23459Holy cow I’d never thought I’d write this :
NJ wins! Really, DEC doing a great job managing deer herd IMHO. Used to be there was shotgun “buck week” then a doe day. Virtually no archery season….fast forward 35 years or so….
Early archery starts mid September. Allowed one buck and at least one antlerless deer per day…then fall bow, permit bow, muzzleloader, permit muzzleloader, shotgun, permit shotgun and winter bows ends mid February. You can legally take one buck per season and at least one antlerless deer per day per season….
Some folks complain they don’t see the number of bucks they used too ( this is a questionable issue as some folks shoot anything with a bone on its head here while others generally will take a doe instead, preferring to let Jr grow up a bit ) however almost all state the overall size, body and rack, have substantially increased
I’m fortunate to have a fair amount of private land to hunt on….access is an issue as most of the best hunting is on private land. There is however a good amount of public land available ….it’s finding a hunter willing to venture beyond the eyesite of his/her truck …

You’re using photobucket, right?
No Alex. Don’t know that. I just have the pix on my iPad 🙄

in reply to: Back from ETAR, what a blast! #16550Great meeting up with the Colonel as Mike and I were in rooms next to each other. We met in hotel vestibule and got to chat about bows, dogs (and my family’s upcoming trip to see him in Maryland!). Then we never saw each other!
I wanted to meet Alex too as fellow NJ late season Bowhunters we need to hook up! Of course once the “Spirit of ETAR” – and my stick bow crazed 14 year old son – kick in it’s a Thursday -Sunday nonstop whirlwind.
Great highlights, among many, G Fred’s great seminar and the opportunity to really pick his – and Mrs Asbell’s brain – and finally get my last book of his, signed.
– Monty Browning’s enjoyable stories, and my son’s beaming smile as he sat listening in utter silence (a first!)
– great courses, up and down the mountains of PA…
– meeting great folks, both from in and out of our TB community 😀
– my son made a new buddy, two of them shot together for hours, great kid, his age. Met his Dad as well. Turns out they live about 15 minutes from us here in Jersey. We’ll be going to the Whittingham shoot here in 3 weeks together 8)
And too much more to type ❗
Love to have a TradBow “Gathering” of some sort next year. Dates are July 24-27. Folks that run the event are looking for some big ideas as it’s the 25th ETAR Anniversary 😆
Would be great fun for all of us to hit a course together :!::!:
in reply to: Eastern Trad Archery Rendezvous #11061Everything up and posted on their site. Monty Browning Sat night speaker…G Fred Asbell will be speaker Friday night at 8…..
My son and I will be at both!:D
Anyone else going?
in reply to: Broad head advice #57294Agree wholeheartedly on the single bevel broad head advice from Steve. I’m an Ashby shooter from ABS ( and various folks here who so graciously sell me some of their “excess used inventory” from time to time 8) ). That’s a big money saver on an expensive but really well built head 😆
in reply to: Hair-raising bear video #28930I’ve had more than just a few experiences like that (granted in stand I’ve only had head waist high or so, not eye to eye like that 😯 ). I too hope this young one got a pass but, depending on the hunter’s experience level, want of some prime forest pork etc, I would understand if he took it….
Of course my big hope is that he quit shaking long enough to execute a clean shot 😆 probably needs new huntin’ clothes too.:lol:
in reply to: Backyard grizzly attack! #25620Hey Ashford
Maybe I’m a little twisted as well ’cause, the more I really think about it, the more I found myself cheering on the bear… 😆
I could make a crude reference about being brought to a certain point and being brutally let down just as the expected crescendo should have occurred… But I know this is a family forum 😈
in reply to: Backyard grizzly attack! #25550I don’t know if I wanted to laugh or cry. As cute as it was (and incredulous quite frankly 😯 )I was waiting for the bear to kind of rip him apart.
I love the bond between man an animal but kinda feel sad when I see the epitome of the wild we all love relegated to a house pet.
Really pulling me in two directions… 🙄
in reply to: Late season hunting! #24129Alex
Folks don’t realize how good we have it! Between the Adirondack wilds and the unreal length of NJ’s seasons, as well as the insane amount of deer (and therefore bag limits in Jersey) we are truly in an archers nirvana, though true, wilderness can get a bit hard to come by in the Garden State 😆
NY Adirondack early bear early September, with big game in North Country winding down around first week or so of December.
Guys in NJ we get the bows in the woods mid September and can fling arrows to our hearts content until end of February! 😯
Alex Anytime you want share a Northern campfire, or a southern mozzarella sandwich, pm me 😆
in reply to: Sika Deer Hunt #24082I go annually with TJ Jenkins of Muddy Marsh Outfitters. Myself, Dad and my now 14 y/o son. TJ offers a fun hunt in VERY wet swamp. He is archery only and due to that fact it is uncanny the number of animals on is leases (approx 5000 acres I believe). These things are small. A “royal bull” (they are an elk actually, complete w ivories) tops out at maybe 100-110 lbs. my son got his first last year, a 3y/o hind that dressed about 50 lbs. they are also a trip to be in the woods with as they are very vocal sounding like a cross between the bugle of a Rocky Mt Bull and the roar of a Red Stag. When you hear this screaming ogre running toward your ground blind (TJ likes ground but has a few stands) it WILL raise the hair on your neck. Of course when you see the pip squeak making all that racket I’ve actually laughed out loud 😀
One thing…I truly believe they are warier, and way more skittish, then any whitetail I’ve chased.
Another word, TJ utilizes feeders, like them or not, as patterning these things can be difficult as its been rare (at least last few years we’ve been going) to hunt any kind of dry-ish ground to track/pattern etc. you will be hunting in water….wear knee high Muck Type boots in order to hunt the best spots 😯
TJ is VERY reasonably priced, easy to get to (I live in No Jersey) and ton of fun to hunt with…
in reply to: "The Untamed" – film #24038Hey Clay
Awesome. Is this something you’ll be raising funds for similar to The Good Hunt? I was happy to donate to that effort and would be glad to do the same for you!
Be well my friend 😀
