in reply to: Hi Everyone #17333
Congrats Steve and glad to see u back. That insidious disease seems to hit every family at one time or another. My wife (lost leg to bone cancer but still got her!!), my mom beat leukemia and my cousin just beat the breast monster for the second time.
It’s a blessing to get through it successfully… Really drives home how important it is to take every day as it comes with a smile and get in the woods as often as possible 😀

How are the reds for table fare? Got plenty of yummy chubby greys here in Jersey but at my place up north in the Adirondacks we have predominantly reds….
in reply to: deer bedding area #17322eidsvolling wrote: Forgive me if you’ve heard me say this here before. As a former SAR dog handler, I had this advice for people:
“If you’re breathing, the dog will find you. And if you’re not breathing, the dog will find you.”
Every organism that inhales and exhales gives off a scent trail from the exhalations that can be detected by dogs, coyotes, wolves, deer, bear, elk, moose, etc. All the scent-blocking (sic) clothing and all the scent-disguising sprays in the world cannot alter this fact. Unless you can hold your breath for several hours or you hunt in a recirculating air apparatus, you WILL leave a scent trail that a deer can detect. Whether the deer will react to that is another question.
And if you should stop breathing permanently, the gases produced by decomposition of your flesh and bones are what the dog will use to find your remains …
Uh oh !!
Now you know some dope will invent a portable air chamber scent suppressor for hunters and it’ll be all over the Outhouse Channel and every hook and bullet magazine across the land !!!:lol:
in reply to: deer bedding area #16762Hey tko
I agree with much of what’s been said (not all 😆 ) but one thing I haven’t seen mentioned is regarding the time you going in/moving around. Based on what I think I’m reading regarding the time you’re spooking the deer, it seems to me you’re going in way too late. Even though the time hasn’t changed yet (DST), by 4pm and later you should be in your hide/blind/stand, sitting quietly, for AT LEAST 2 hours already IMHO 😀
in reply to: The 2013 Season Bulletin Board #62211Well…
In Northern Maine the drenching has stopped but the incessant, swirling, at times gale force, wind has really kept the local bruin population anywhere but out and about!
The guys who were here at Squapan during Black Widow week last week had good weather, seeing over 30 bears. The five of us in camp this week have seen a total of 3, with only one on the pole….
What a difference a few days can make 🙄
in reply to: Best wishes for the TBM family #62206God Bless the entire family, immediate, extended and here at TradBow…
Got a chance to chat a bit at Denton. Wonderful folks….my mom – leukemia, wife – bone, cousin – breast (and the list, unfortunately not done there) all LIVING proof that the no good SOB bastard CAN AND DOES GET BEAT – Regularly 😈
Pray and smile and you’ll get through Larry and Belinda. We’ll all be doing the same for you. :D:D:D
in reply to: The 2013 Season Bulletin Board #58668Day two in bear camp up in Northern Maine. Having a blast as my friend (and outfitter) Tony Boucher is truly a good time who runs a fun, productive camp 😆
Raining like we were back in the days of Noah. Never been so wet so much for last two days. On the radar looks like weather finally gonna be good tomorrow afternoon and rest of week.
NJ deer opens the day before I return home this weekend and NY early bear (Adirondacks) week after 😀
Thank the Good Lord the Fall is back:!::!::!: 8)8)8)
in reply to: Bear Scouting Pics #54283Good Luck to all:!::D
Just turning in now as getting up at 430 tomorrow am for 12 hour Maine run to chase blueberry munchin’ bruins 8)
Be a great jump start to our early Adirondack season that opens in 2 more weeks! ( plus Jersey archery deer in a little over a week!!!)
God certainly heaped the blessings on this time of year 😆
in reply to: Apparent Elk Die-off in New Mexico #53158That’s a shame, though it is nature at work I guess. We had a similar issue here in NJ last year. A few towns reported dozens of dead whitetails around certain streams and rivers where those gnats seem to be more prevalent. Amazing how such tough, wild majestic creatures could succumb so quickly to those little sobs…
in reply to: Pushing the limits #53131My wife is awesome. She is the only female in the house, including the pets! My two 14 y/o sons hunt and fish with me…and she’s thrilled by it. Long time ago, when we first met, she asked how much I love to hunt and fish. I told her, nicely, that I’ve been in the outdoors since three and that I’d be there forever, long before we met, and long after she’s gone… She looked at me, thought fora minute and asked if I’d show her what its like 😀
She did her final thesis, as a broadcast journalism major in a VERY liberal university in downtown Manhattan, on whitetail deer hunting 8)
She got the ring the next year 😆
in reply to: SBD string. Two track silencers questions! #51995Sorry!
Some really lousy writing there 😳 I meant I had read about the Two Tracks wool silencers in one of Dave’s posts! 🙄
As for heterodyning (sp?) I’ve read about that method of placing silencers in a number of places (websites, blogs, mags etc). I used to always place my silencers at equal measurements from each tip. Then I tried heterodyne method and it seems to make a difference….
Sorry about any confusion 😥
in reply to: Bow quivers #51988Love and use the ABS one arrow quiver when stalking. Also love my Kanati 3 arrow ( but I use the strap on model). It’s flat and holds 3 Ashby tipped griz sticks super tight. John Dill makes some great products and I’m sure he has something (or can make u something) that’ll work beautifully. 😀

in reply to: Organized work area? #45735A neat work space is a sign of a sick mind. 😀
Couldn’t agree more Duncan 😆 Btw, I too have BOTH of those Shrade knives on your workbench. In fact, that big stag horn was my first purchase w/ my own $$ as a boy… And it’s still my go to carry knife on trips. I love the heft for certain things and love that skinner equally! 😀
