      Thx R2!

My tech skills are severely limited…guess that’s why I’m so hooked on this Trad thing of ours …:lol:8)

Our wonderful Legislature took deer management away from the wildlife commission and gave it to the agricultural commission with a single line in the budget.

I don’t see how that’s legal, but they did it. No notification, no comments, no debate in the legislature. It was paid for by Food Lion and the Deer “farmers”. Not sure what the CEO of Food Lion has planned, but I am sure it ain’t good…

My God Steve. That’s horrendous. And one of my biggest fears living here in Jersey and upstate NY. The good news here in Jersey (so far) is our Gov Christie seems to be supportive of hunters and has repeatedly sided w/ our DEC. I sit on NJ State Council for TU and he’s been real helpful there too…NY on the other hand …holy moly. Cuomo is so anti outdoorsman, second amendment etc it’s repulsive. And now he’s pitching this “NY open for Hunting and Fishing” program in an attempt to get upstate folks to forget he railroaded the most draconian gun laws in the country through under the guise of safety after that horror in CT. The funny thing is his law would’ve done NOTHING to stop that sicko at the school…and, oh yeah, he made every member of law enforcement in the state that didn’t carry a revolver a felon…really well thought out legislation 🙄

Steve it’s a shame what your Legislature did…hopefully you can get folks in that gets it and reverses that sham…

I saw the same show and was dumbstruck…especially given the fact I was watching with my 14 y/o best huntin buddy. How happy was I when he turned around, looked at me, and said ” Dad, he can’t be serious, and he’s a game warden!?!”….another proud moment!

God Bless you both Dave. We’ve never met but yours and C’s impact has been strong. I nearly lost the love of my life to that dread C, we were lucky in it took her leg only…relegating her to a life of pain and difficulty, but a life nonetheless. I don’t know your beliefs but I can tell you mine are that you, and she, are not alone, not apart…just changed…and only for awhile…peace my friend.

Good luck guys! Can’t wait until you get back and see pix/report…lots of pix. Please! I understand how intoxicating a change of venue can be…most of my hunting career has been big woods of Adirondacks and Canada, sprawling farms in Jersey with the occasional foray to Alaska….then a couple of years ago we started chasing Sika deer in the salt marshes of Maryland’s eastern shore. To hunt in the phrag, listening to those little critters roaring and sloshing through the water, smelling the salt air…and returning to camp to gorge on oysters and crabs….it’s a truly awesome experience. I can only imagine how wonderful the island must be 8)8)8)

I’d recommend Kanati strap on. John is a GREAT guy to deal with and the quality is impeccable. I have the three arrow flat model (perfect for two blade heads). The straps are rubber, don’t mar and don’t move. Very easy to take on and off. There is no interference at all w/ fletching. Also, they are very customizable. John offers a variety of options to go fully custom or nice and simple, choice is yours 😀

Anyone have a good venison heart recipe? My son (14) took his first archery whitetail yesterday (wheel bow but coming along real well w/ trad gear 😀 ). He has a tremendous hunter/conservationist ethic, way better than I had at his age, and wants to try heart/liver. So we brought them home with us too. I’ve had both marinating overnight ( from about 11 pm last night) in some red vinegar, olive oil, S&P, garlic….

Got a few liver recipes ….I’ve had heart before and was good, boiled then butter fried….

Thoughts/recipes for the OL’ pump station??

                          Dave (& everyone)

Really impressive the clips/outtakes etc on The Good Hunt website. I for one am not only very excited to see the film but feel immensely proud that, in some small way, I (along with a host of our Trad brothers and sisters) am able to contribute to the project. I did email Chris through the site that I will certainly try to pony up a few more $$ for the cause 😀

Can’t wait to see it finished !

Can’t wait to see this video. Little too noisy at the present time. Right now in a ground blind w/ my 14 y/o in one of our favorite North Jersey oak flats – right behind the house !!! I’m just the nervous dad, he’s hunting and just passed on a button buck at maybe 10 yards. ” don’t want to shoot them Dad…”

                            Love this kid 😀

                              Hey 1

Folks don’t realize how beautiful NYS is. My Adirondacks is such a part of my very soul that if I’m away for too long it bothers me. My wife even says when we reach a certain point in the drive up, as we pull off the highway onto the back roads my whole demeanor changes. Great shots great story! Good luck this season 😀

I’ve been on many sites but must say this one is special…though I’ve not met anyone personally yet (w/exception of a too short chat w/ Col Mike at Denton and then couldn’t get together afterwards 🙁 ) I’ve come to know / deal with a few folks, Dave being one. The respect here, the familial vibe and the free sharing of advice, info and just some ideas really makes this my “go to” web presence.

I’ve been fortunate on TradGang as far as some classified dealings. Purchased a few things and never had an issue though I’ve heard quite a bit from the few folks there I’ve actually met…it’s a sad reality…

Anyway, WebMom, Dave, Col Mike, Alex, the Steves and everyone else too numerous to mention, thank you for the fun, fellowship and all the great advice and opinions. Always a great time here. Hope to share a campfire or two w/ each and everyone some day. :D:D

First TradBow season, one before last, in a hub style ground blind and lightly tickling rattling horns….along comes beautiful 11 pointer, high, wide, thick, that I’d seen before but never close enough. Holy moly I think, what a first trad kill!! I’m shooting a 62″ Widow PMA at the time. He gets about 14/15 yards, perfect broadside shot . Pick a spot, draw and release – and hear the heartsick smack as my lower limb tip sticks into one of the hubs and arrow takes off like I’m trying to shoot airplanes 😳

Gets better – one would HOPE to learn from one’s mistakes….about 8 days later….

                                  Same blind…

                                  Same buck…

                                  Same spot…

I got this I figured, take careful note of that lower limb tip…draw, release…THUD!!!!

                                  Upper limb tip…

                                  Top blind hub…

Killed two worms standing right under the buck….

                                  Haven’t seen him since :cry::cry::cry:
