Bruce;
Do you use the clicker while hunting? I’ve just started using one because I was short drawing. The clicker is definitly the answer to my problem but am wondering if I should take it off while hunting.

in reply to: Meat in the Freezer #10914I hunt with traditional equipment because I really enjoy the challenge it affords me. But the reason I hunt is because my family and I prefer wild game over any other type of meat. I can assure you that if the meat was not used by us I would not hunt. A few years ago a friend of my son came up during rifle season and shot a nice doe on our property. He then spent the next few hours trying to give it away because he didn’t want to clean it or process it. I wound up taking the animal but I can assure you that man was never invited back!

I agree with you about the smell left on wool after coming back from the dry cleaners. I have several hunting wool items that are dry clean only. I have a ten foot overhang running the full length of my barn where I store the tractor implements. When I get the wool clothes back from the cleaners I take the plastic off and hang them for a couple of weeks under the overhang where air can circulate around them. This seems to solve the problem with dry cleaning odors. Just a suggestion that works for me.
Joein reply to: How to deal with mosquitoes? #63471Thanks everybody! I’d seen them advertised but I thought Thermacells were just another gimmick to separate people from their money. It sounds like they really do work. I just ordered one from (don’t tell Dave) Cabela’s.
Joein reply to: A trophy "dear". My first! #63465Congratulations!!! We’ve got a little plaque on our dresser that reads “If we had known grandkids were so much fun we would have had then first” I’m sure you are looking forward to spending a lot of time with your new shooting partner.
Joein reply to: Deer Hunters…Morning or Evening? #53489My father-in-law and archery mentor used to say that the chances of seeing a deer in the morning are not as good as seeing one in the evening but they are way better than seeing one while you are in bed.
Joein reply to: looking for fletchings #46879I really enjoy making my own fletching from wild turkey wings. Most turkey hunters here in northeast Michigan are willing to let me have the wings. It is a great winter project to split, grind, and dye them. Remember that there are only 4 to 7 feathers on a wing that are suitable for fletching. Therefore you need several wings to make up a seasons worth of arrows. I agree it is a lot of work but it is still better than watching reality shows on TV.
in reply to: Plaid Shirts #46862I agree with morris. Mrs. Asbell hand sews every pull over plaid shirt. You can get them with or without a hood. They also come in a variety of weights. I have a 22oz for early season and a 28oz for Nov. – Dec. hunting.
