in reply to: What ya got goin? #51067
Rockford isn’t that far from Berrien Springs. Were you at the Compton Rendezvous? I think it was the best ever with great speakers.
in reply to: Signs of Spring? #43684This is one of the few mornings in the past 3 months where it is warmer here in northeast Michigan than in Delta Junction, AK where our daughter and her family live.
in reply to: Kalamazoo Expo – 2014 #51252Well it is Friday morning here in northern Michigan and we are snowed in with more on the way. My son is a state trooper stationed a few miles west of K’zoo and he says to not even try driving down. I guess I am going to miss it for the first time ever.
in reply to: Predator Recurve? #13119I have two 60″ Predators and shoot 29 1/4″ arrows. No problem with finger pinch at all. I shoot 3 under.
in reply to: Predator Recurve? #12013I have shot Ron Pittsley’s Predator Bows for the last 20 years and can assure you imho that they are the best 3 piece bows available.
in reply to: voodoo or what? #23320I have several friends that really enjoy shooting with traditional equipment but when hunting season roles around they use their compounds. My advice would be to hang in there with your traditional bow but use your compound for hunting until you feel good about your traditional equipment. It took most of us a long time to gain confidence in our equipment. I’ve been at it 55 years and still manage to ruin a nice grouping once in a while.
in reply to: Late season hunting! #22122I really enjoy whitetail hunting here in northeast Michigan during December for all of the reasons listed above.
in reply to: Hunting footwear #14899The original Xtra Tufs that were made in the USA are the best wet and/or cold weather hunting boots I have ever used. They are now being made in China and the quality has gone right down the tubes.
in reply to: Glove vs. tab #45642For the last 20 years I have used a SAM (super archery mitt) tab. I never lose it or drop it because the cord keeps it attached to my wrist. They seem to last forever and work for both 3 under and split fingers. The last time I checked 3 Rivers still carried them.

in reply to: Kalamazoo? #23567I will be making the long drive south to Kalamazoo. Hope to meet some of the forum members at that time. You have any trouble spotting me because I’ll probably be the oldest guy there.

in reply to: Ancient Edges #13485I believe it is illegal to hunt with stone projectiles in the state of Michigan.
in reply to: Right Wing or Left Wing? #54999I have heard that turkey farmers would clip the right wing so there were a lot more left wing feathers available than right wing. I’m not sure if it is true or not but that is what I heard.
in reply to: Painted Kodiak Magnums #12063Thanks Robin. There are a lot of things I like about this web site but your efforts to help us and to keep us informed is the main one. Thanks again.

in reply to: A long look at fletching and EFOC #27883Anybody that attended Dr. Ashby’s seminar in Kalamazoo should know that EFOC is just as important for whitetails as it is for any other big game. I am pushing 70 now and can tell you that FOC is probably the most important development in traditional archery that I have witnessed in over 50 years of shooting. Thank you Dr. Ashby for teaching an old dog a new trick!

in reply to: Target Panic #27872I’m not sure I was having target panic as much as I had become complacent and a little over bowed. I have been making my arrows 29.25 inches long and drawing 28.5 since the early sixtys. A few months ago my wife asked me why I was making my arrows so much longer than my draw while we were out stumping. I never look at the point of my arrow while shooting because it means a for sure miss. It was her comment that made me begin to think about short drawing. I always hit my anchor but was not extending my bow arm far enough. I put the clicker on and set it at 28.5 and make sure I make it click every time. I also asked Ron for some 45lb limbs for my Predator. Every thing is fine now. Also FOC has definitly helped to tighten my groups.
