in reply to: Moose thoughts #29650
I have this one thought.
In an area like the one where the moose was killed, the animals see humans quite bit. I have been in areas like this and have literally walked up to within 20 yards on moose.
While the kill is perfectly legal, was it fair chase?

in reply to: Empathy for wildlife #14554The more I cohabitate the land with my prey , the harder it becomes each year to end a life. But I still do and am thank ful come late winter for the feast in the kitchen.
I am also thankful for others of like minds and it encourages me to think I am not alone in this regard.

you have not had syrup until you have had Kickapoo Gold from the SW of Wisc. I get it at the big farmers market just across the big river.

in reply to: Turbulators #16178I am also shooting 4 X 2.25 feathers and use turbulators. But to be honest I use them because Ed says they make a difference. My eyes and ears can’t not see any diff with or without them.
The only downside I see to using such small feathers is i lose sight of the arrow in flight after about 20 yards.

in reply to: an about time article #8737I am fortunate to live in MN where baiting is illegal. Still is it the single largest game violation our wardens hand out citations for. Sad to think a few have the ability to ruin it for so many.
I place a lot of the blame on the various hunting channels and the hunting industry that seems to have no problems pushing products that are supposed to pull the deer in. Very sad.

in reply to: The 2013 Season Bulletin Board #30459windy rainy and WINDY! The past few days weather has made it difficult to hunt effectively. Plus the lock down has pretty much been in effect as well. Saw a couple of small bucks today and some does right at last light.
in reply to: More international good press for bowhunting #23376how about we quit trying to find excuses for what happened and just admit their are DA’s out there carrying traditional bows and arrows. We need to admit that and then work like hell to educate those among us who take crappy shots rather then letting the prey walk.
in reply to: How many times per week do you hunt? #16617every day both am and pm if possible. Sunday I killed a doe, it was my 63 rd outing of the season.

in reply to: Furthest shot on game? #55125while hunting woodland Caribou in 2001 in Newfoundland I missed a little bull at 12 yards. Shot low between his legs.
The bull ran to 40 yards turned and stopped, he didn’t know what I was he walked back towards me to 30 yards and turned broadside. As I started my draw, my guide ( an older guy who had never guided a stick bow hunter) leans forward and whispers in my ear ” Aim a little igher will ya matey?”
I drilled him with a heart shot, he ran 40 yards and tumbled.
