Our camp has obtained a stove from a camper or RV and built a cabinet for it, now we bring frozen meals we have prepared ahead of time and put them in the oven upon our return for the day. We can then sit back, relax, play some crib and wait for dinner.

Love the name “Idabow” that is cool. Well I am off in 6 days for a 10 day elk camp up in the steep north Idaho mtns. Good luck to us both, and be safe.

Xtreme North Idaho Traditional Archers. A network of traditional archers from the Northwest. No politics, just folks getting the word out about regional trad shoots, and making great friends.

No bad impact from weather in north Idaho. We do have restrictions on muley does, but can take whitetail.

Our biggest negative impact has been a loss of the cow elk season for bow hunters do to predators, mainly wolves.

Glad I am in it for the hunt, I just love being out in the wild.

I have never heard of a “cold shot”, but I have been doing it with my broad heads in prep for elk camp in 1 week! My shots have been anywhere from 15 to 30 yds and out to 20, I am good to go. beyond that, I will have to let it go.

Thanks, you also. Have one of your TX boys coming up to Elk Camp in 2 1/2 wks. He is a great guy with lots of fun stories of TX pig hunts that keep us in sticthes at the cribbage table.

I understand where you are coming from, I never really take great joy in killing an animal, but I do enjoy the hunt, and the meat. Out here, you see a lot of road kill, and I would rather harvest an animal and enjoy the meat, than see it rot on the roadside.

Our fish and game dept, regulate seasons and harvests based on population in the different areas. For the past 2 years, there has been no harvesting of cow elk in my area, unless you get drawn for a cow tag. That is a result of the so called wolf reintroduction to Idaho. Even though I am aggravated by the whole situation, I still enjoy watching the cows and calves while hunting. I am for whatever helps to bring the elk population back up to levels that allow the harvesting of cows during bow season again. If that means years with no cow season, I will be happy to comply.

Like so many other Traditionalist, I enjoy the hunt first and foremost. And to better answer your question, I don’t rifle hunt much anymore because it just seems like “killing” to me, may as well be a sniper.

Is the sportsmans package one tag, and whichever of those animals you harvest is your one animal?

Those are all separate tags. We can also hunt Muley bucks in Nov. $124.25 gets you all that, plus archery and muzzle loader permits, upland game, waterfowl, Steelhead and Salmon permits. I love Idaho.

For me, a clean quick kill is most important. I need a clear shot at the boiler room on any animal I am pursuing for it to be considered ethical.

No cotton! Good base layer of poly, silk or nylon. Wool is proven, and fleece does a great job also. Keep her head and ears covered and have some hand warmers available. Nice insulated footwear and should be cozy. I cannot afford the really hi tech stuff, so I use the best I can afford. My latest addition is non cotton underware! nice to be dry after a bit, instead of damp all day long if you sweat or get wet. No need for a rash 🙂
