in reply to: Hunting Hats for 2010 #59440
I got this Art Young hat..just like the old style look..but my string hits the brim unless I push the hat back way far on my head. I notice photo’s of Fred Bear and how far back he wore his hat. Another thing I don’t like about all the hats I get is when hunting from tree stand when I lean back the bream hits the tree. So I will probably do like I always do anywas..hunt without a hat and when the sun comes up an gets in my eyes, pull out an old cloth cap I keep waded up in my pocket.
in reply to: When The Compound Was Born… #59432I remember the first one I saw was in Augusta, Ga. at an older gentleman’s personal archery range he had at his house. I think the bow was an Allen. They had not really hit the market yet.
Anyway when they did come out Ga. made them illegal..classified them as mechanical..for the first few yrs. When they did legalize them I was hunting one day in Ft. Stewart and while driving in my vehicle from one area to another MP pulled me over to tell me I was driving too fast and saw my Jennings Model T compound and proceeded to start writing me a ticket for having a strung bow in my vehicle. I finally convinced him it was legal and I didn’t know how to unstring it.
I wouldn’t even call these shows “hunting shows” more like deer farming. Some of the funniest ones I’ve seen is when they shoot a buck and then get all bent out of shape saying “I don’t know this deer!” We’ve never seen him before!
They have a portfolio on every deer on their properties and must have a trail cam on every other tree. They let them roam around unhunted for 3yrs and when the antlers get ripe “harvest” it. Then they talk about how smart and hard to kill the deer are they shoot. They are so hard to kill they got these little girls and their children killing trophy bucks on a regular base’s. Nothing against little girls and children..just don’t think they would have much luck on the public lands I hunt.
in reply to: Broadhead of choice let's hear it #27522I’m just now getting back into recurves again..took about a 40 something year break with the wheels. Anyway I’m having a hard time deciding which way to go with broadheads, foc, efoc, etc. Back when I shot recurves you just put a broadhead on the end of the same arrow you shoot field rounds with and hunted with it.
I just can’t make myself give up what little bit of speed I get out of my 45# Quinn Stallion for a whole lot of weight up front. Think I’m going with Grizzly 160 double bevel and Ace Standard 125gr and see which I like best…both with 25gr adapters.
