I have never wanted to hunt bear in the past , but your stories and pics along with the fact that you are actually HUNTING them with traditional tackle is most interesting and brings out a desire to do the same , though I doubt I ever will .

I didn’t know there are vast tracts of WILD places east of the big creek where a man can take his recurve for a 12 mile walk .

I understand (I think) what you said about the 5 miles from the truck . Being past middle aged with a degenerative spine I only hunt whitetails in places that allow a small tractor or such to fetch out a kill. My dragging days are all behind me now .

Wishing you the best of seasons in both safety and SKILL of the hunt . Let the puny rely on luck.

To me this all is very amazing . Doubtful one could find a patch of timber in Ohio to make a 12 mile hike , or even 6 miles . I guess one could walk in circles . 😀

I get a big kick out your posts and pics . No doubt a man that can take care of himself in the woods .

Hope you get plenty of personal time with that BIG bear.

        Keep it coming .

Very interesting testimonials and ‘more than one way to skin a cat ‘.

I’m curious about the reports of cracks , bends and breaking .

I still have my three original Hammers . The only thing to happen so far is one of the sharp edges chipped off . Also , mine are the screw in type , mounted on 2216 aluminum and leaving the bow at 152 FPS .

I generally go months without shooting into a foam target .It’s usually just walking around the yard shooting dandelions , leaves , walnuts and the like . The yard is continually being thatched by the Hammer . Little narrow strips of sod being ripped up .

Golf balls are great fun when you have a ‘STUMPIN’ PARTNER’

I can’t say this is critter damage though I do find it amusing .

We live in a tiny community ,,,10 houses,,,which is on a state highway . My neighbors house is about 60 yards away and they have one of those locust trees that shed the long flat seed pods each fall.

Back in the fall the deer would move across our two properties during the night and feed on the pods ,,,,poop in my yard and browse in the remains of my garden .Then the snow and ice came and there were unmistakable tracks and many times within 10 feet of the house . They would cross the highway and go right past the other neighbors barns and across the bean field.

Yesterday , while wandering around the yard shooting at leaves and such I found a big pile of coyote scat . My estimation is the ‘yote had taken up the deers feeding route in hopes of a meal .

I too have seen where the rabbits have eaten the bark off small saplings this year , but not here around the house. Now the two rabbits we had homesteading our 1 acre have been turned to vittles by some predator ,,,,,probably one or more of the neighbors fifty cats . I knew I should have harvested them 😳

Raghorn , BH is 125 gr. ACE (actually tips the scale at 130 gr.) 125 gr. steel broadhead adapter on 2216 Legacy shafts.

FOC is a touch over 20%.

I just came in from shooting the left wing fletched arrows with the broadhead and all is good.

AusJim , I also double checked the right wing fletched shafts and they are correct.

In the past I have always moved the rug rest away from strike plate a mite but haven’t yet moved it on this bow . Until the rug needs changed I’ll leave things the way they are and shy away from the right wing arrows.

I’m sorry for the slow reply but I landed a full time job and am still in my Electrical Training , which is making for a very long day.

There is 250 grains up front . I use ACE standard BH . All points, blunts and BH’s are very near identical in weight and fly very well .

The short fletching was 5.5” shield cut . I cut them short to reduce noise mainly .

Yes , I’ve read it many times that right or left doesn’t matter . I just thought maybe someone could shed some light on the problem. Everything being identical on two arrows with the exception of one left wing/ one right wing.

Took the bow for a walk on Friday to do some stumping and shed hunting . I got plenty of shooting but found no sheds .

Yesterday my TRAD partner and I spent almost 4 hours zig-zagging through his woods and only found one bone ,,,left side , 2 point. Must have made a hundred shots each .

We don’t actually NEED the antlers , but it is another good reason to get in the woods with our bows .

Back in ’75 it was a very rare thing to see Canada Geese here in southern Ohio . I was driving , about 5 miles from home when I spotted a flock of 85 geese in V formation and very low . Now at that time I was 18 years old and had only seen one flock and it was so high it was barely visible , though Dad and I could hear them very well . So , upon sighting the low flyers I began taking different roads to stay in sight and follow them . Much to my amazement they ended up landing in the field right behind our home . Nowadays they are a very common sight and very few migrate .

Thanks gentlemen for your input .

I went back to the 3 Rivers catalog and found that several of the bows they offer come with the D97 string .

So there must be some QUIRK in my form , release or bow that is preventing me from being able to get the D97 string quiet . I switch back to the endless loop dacron and all is good .

Thanks Doc for the education .

Also , I may not have been too descriptive in my post above . I have the flemish string shot in very well . I am experiencing no stretch .

I have read that the flemish string is quieter than the endless loop . In my experience if the endless loop string has too much twist in it , because it evidently is too long , the results may be good shooting but the noise level is high .

Not looking for an arguement by no means ,,,just like to know how to get this D97 string quiet or is there a big difference between the D97 and the FASTFLIGHT flemish twist string .

                          Thanks , Mark
