“Don’t go upstairs empty handed.” Mom
“You’re smart. You can do anything if you want to bsd enough.” Dad. Good thing I didn’t want to play basketball.
My mom used to say that candle one all of the time. Been trying to prove her wrong for 50 years. Hey! I’m still alive, and what dosn’t kill me makes me stronger, right. Work might go a bit easier if I sent Audrey home when Arwen went to bed, but it might get embarassing. Like when she beats the crap out of me, and drags me off to bed.:D
in reply to: Heat gun glue for arrows? #20747Oops forgot…Techies around here use nylon wire ties for everything.
in reply to: Heat gun glue for arrows? #20745I’ve been down in Dixis, and grits will stick anything to together.
Called Garrison Keilher, and he says everything is held together with bailing wire.
Called Red Green, in Maine, his nephew answered and said he uses duct tape for everything.
In Calif. They hold things together with hair elastics (won’t help when they tumble into the sea).

Back around the turn of the century (love saying that) I ran into a mama bear and cubs on the Long Trail. Before I even knew they were there, the cubs were climbing trees, and Mama was running as fast as she could. Cought a glimse of her going over the next ridge. NO, I didn’t growl at them, wave my arms, or act like I’m taller. Mama bear was probably a lot bigger than I am. I hunkered down and waited to see what happened, was she coming back. Pretty soon the cubs started coming down the trees, making scared noises. That is when I got out of there, Sorry, Mam I’m not raising your kids for you. Please don’t ask me what I think of Maternal instincts.

I wanna be 6′ tall!!!!!
Malcom Gladwell in OUTLIERS explains this. He explores how sports greats, and Beatles (the band not the bugs) get so good, and why we never forget how to ride a bike. Remember in Building the Bow, how the first arrow I shot hit the tree? That was the result of the years of practice I had as a youngster. I wasn’t thinking about shooting, I just wanted to see if the bow worked. Btw it is a big tree, and I missed with the second arrow. Archery, fly casting, and riding a bike are stored in some part of the brain that gets the stuff that is repitive. My Dad called the Army wany of teaching. Drill, Drill, Drill. When the sports great “cluches” he is actually thinking about how to throw the ball, when the automatic takes over, it flies right. Watch a tradsman, he dosn’t think about how to drive a nail, he thinks “Nail there.” the rest is automatic. Was at a concert, and the lead guitarist was playing George Harrison riffs while he talked to me. His conciouse mind was conversing, while his sub (or semi) concious played the riffs.
